Help Wanted

  1. I got a few through Amazon. I have to tell you, though, one of the people I gave a copy of “The Murdering Of My Years” stopped talking to me. I’ll let you know if I lose any more acquaintances from SDS grin.

  2. When I was a scrappy kid growing up in The Bronx and not yet affected by the the idea/practice of owning stuff, I used to read alot of heady books and did something different with them after I finished reading ‘em: I left ‘em in buses and subways for others to find and hopefully read.  True, I didn’t build a fine collection of books by doing this.  But the thought of someone possibly experiencing a chance thought-"aha" was enough of an incentive for me to have done that for a few years.  Passing our books on to other folks, instead of having ‘em take up space in our domiciles, has its benefits… even if we may not be personally aware of them.

  3. Harry,

Losing friends is an occupational hazard in my line of work. My own uncle disowned me after 9/11...but there he was in the second row last month when I was on C-Span. Some come back...others close their minds more and more…

  4. One more thing, Harry: I forgot to say THANKS for all your support.

  5. I just bought a bunch to give out to friends and family.  I also grabbed “A Gigantic Mistake,” I see you worked with Howard Zinn on that one...must hae been an interesting experience.

I’ll be spreading the word as well, and will post a link on my blog as soon as I figure out how.

There are many of us who appreciate your work so I am sure things will pick up soon.

  6. A BIG thank you to James, too. I think you’ll be amused to see what Zinn actually contributed to “Mistake.” He has always been supportive of my work and wrote a great blurb for my first book when we really needed some credibility by association.

If any of people to whom you give my books wish to contact me, please have them e-mail me or stop by the site and post comments. I enjoy the dialogue.

Thanks again, both James and Harry.

  7. Getting the works—books art music etc—of people I know, even if it is just comments on weblogs, feels more real. There’s an authentic quality to it that I’ll never experience with most of the people whose work means something to me.

So much of life is fake and mean in small ways. So many of my friends, and I as well, spent years trying to fill a sense of emptiness with temporary palliatives. Here I’ve got a chance to get something real, from someone who is real, to help several people all at once and to get thanked on top. How sweet is that?

It’s a good thing there’s no one else around. I’m laughing so hard they’d think I’d done some mischief.

  8. Laughter as direct action? Imagine if a group of people went to a political rally and every time the politician said something, they laughed instead of clapped.

  9. Excellent!

  10. Dear Sir

  11. Are you willing to order online? If so, you can click the book covers on the right side of this page or go to the publisher (http://www.commoncouragepress.com/).

As for bookstores, you’ll have to make calls in Perth. If you can’t find them, please let me know.

    Thanks...and spread the word.
