It's almost March 19: Need help planning your protest?
Hey, now I’m even more famous… well I don’t really understand the Free Tibet movement, but as for protests, these people seem to know how to do it for real: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7294014.stm
And it actually seems that March 19th falls on a Wednesday… what shall I do?
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/13 at 10:47 AMHello Mickey...glad to speaking event went well...myself, being desperate for some humor today...intelligent journalist website is blocked on my work computer, but corrupt, capitlist businesses can be accessed...you can shop for toys but you are not allowed to become enlightened...!
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/13 at 10:57 AMI’m glad you reminded us of the protest date, MZ. I’ll mark my calendar - ‘Today the troops came home, the Administration was placed in the dock, and Democrats became an opposition party.’
RMJ offers up another zippy campaign sign. Could Nader/Gonzales also be called the No Excuses ticket? ("If we lose the election, we take full responsibility. Ourselves.")
I recommend the first half of “The Big Con” by the New Republic’s Jonathan Chait. It’s a sharp history of supply-side economics which, as that field’s analog to Leo Strauss’s politics (psychotic/ridiculous), now reigns and is no longer given the thrashing it deserves. The last half of the book is a whine-fest about how the Democrats come out on the short end of the propaganda system, and is laughable in its own right.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 03/13 at 11:14 AM11. Take a picture of the group forming a peace symbol so that it can be slapped on the flyer for the next protest.
Posted by Charles on from Jersey City 03/13 at 01:18 PMHi Mickey, Zen, joe, and all…
Great photos on the front page. If I had known that there would be 3 men as handsome as that there, I would have hitch hiked all the way down.
Zen...I like that - “The No Excuses Party”. We need bumper stickers that say “Don’t blame me, I voted for Nader”.
Today is “National Why Are USAers So Lacking in Empathy Day”. Remember Kitty Genovese? I remember when it happened. I remember how I felt - shocked and confused. I tried to explain the lack of empathy to myself. Maybe I’m starting to understand now. The Fisk photos tell a lot about human behavior.
Yep, I just got word about the candlelight vigil here. There will be music. I believe that most who attend will vote for Hillary/Obama. What can I say… just one more example of the lack of empathy.

Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/13 at 01:29 PMHello Expendables. Great comments today. I like the “no excuses” concept and who else wants to join Charles in adding to my protest checklist?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/13 at 02:08 PM#12, when you head to Starbuck’s to warm up after the long hard day of fighting the power, make sure to bring a reusable mug, to get that ten cent discount, and like, save the planet or something.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/13 at 02:16 PM(And make sure those pesky anarchists don’t try to break a Starbuck’s window)
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/13 at 02:17 PM(and if they do, start yelling at them and call the police to have them arrested right away for giving us respectable protesters a bad name)

Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 03/13 at 04:54 PMAn uncle of mine is a 70 year old ex-Catholic priest from the west side of Chicago. He has had a life-long love affair with Jazz music and a voice that is almost too perfect for the radio. My brother and he decided to record a homemade radio show called The Best Of Jazz. So far they have recorded about 25 hour long segments that my brother is broadcasting through a radio streaming service on the Internet in a continuous loop. They add new shows all of the time. There is a limit to the amount of simultaneous listeners they can have at one time, but I have never been blocked from getting on there. Anyone interested in Jazz...experts, beginners, and everyone in between...might want to check it out. Here’s how to tune in to the show:
1. Open up any MP3 player that supports MP3 streams, such as iTunes,Windows Media Player, or QuickTime.
2. Look for an option such as Open Stream or Open URL/Location.
3. Copy http://24.15.230.206:8000/listen.m3u and paste into the available field and click OK.
My uncle’s name is Fred Brandstrader. My brother: Bill O’Shea, Jr. Anyone wanting to contact the show for comments, requests or complaints can reach them here:
There are no commercials, no charges, no requests for donations. This is just something they do for the love of jazz. I think some in the crowd here at mickeyz.net might enjoy it.Posted by JOS on from Oak Park 03/13 at 05:15 PMHowdy, James, Joe of Maine, Zen Prole, JOS, Charles, Rosemarie, Tommy and - Mickey from a very warm Daylesford: 104F today.
Captcha ‘river’: lots of rivers in Australia are running dry.And who told us on and prior to 19 March 2003 that the war would be over in a couple of months? How come these people are never held accountable.
Very interesting piece on the perils of reporting from the West Bank - coming from an Israeli, no less:

Oh, and thanks for posting those photos, Mickey! Wish I could have been there ..Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 03/13 at 07:14 PMHi Helga and all…
JOS...sure wish I could hear all the jazz. What I’m thinking about this morning...the Feds are master minding a shell game - funds going from JPM to BS. Most folks will miss this news because of the mumbo jumbo speak of the Wall Street experts. The feds are covering up a lack of “liquidity”, in other words hiding the fact that the banks are in serious trouble. Those of us without money in the bank will be the most affected. Think Katrina - those without money are always hurt the most in any U$A tragedy.
Also, during the night the members of the House debated whether or not to hold a secret session to discuss FISA. Very interesting. More and more government being conducted in secret. So what else is new or is all of this just more of the same.
Just one more thought...Obama’s minister is right in 95% of what the pundits consider to be so objectionable - the criticisms of the US. No one has the courage to say that, not even Obama. Amen.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/14 at 09:54 AMMICKEY HAS A GREAT ONE UP AT DISSIDENT VOICE.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/14 at 10:13 AMHm, what’s JPS and FISA?
Had to point out irony of “debating on whether to hold a secret session.” How slowly the wheels of bureacracy turn. Did they also hold a secret session on when to schedule a debate on when to hold a series of secret sessions regarding the formation of a set of committes designed to enact future confidential good governance and best practices policies?
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/14 at 10:18 AMRMJ...14...the leeeeders will eat caviar while asking us, those who support the war criminals, to sacrifice...for them. And this is because we are free and civilized.........
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/14 at 10:23 AMRMJ - Mickey, Helga, Jos, James, Zen, Joe, Jersey/Charles—Tonite, my bride and I are going to see and listen to Alan Keyes. I placed a link to his Presidential Campaign Site here—http://tinyurl.com/ysw5wg—I find it ironic that Obama gets top of the list billing as America’s “first” African American to run for President. As you may recall, Obama defeated Keyes for the Illinois Senate seat in 04’. Keyes made his first run for the Presidency in 96’ !! I listened to Keyes in the Iowa Republican Debate on PBS. I don’t agree with everything Keyes says, but he is in my backyard tonite so I’m going to give him a listen. I like the fact that he wants to abolish the Federal Income Tax and he’s a strong “State’s Rights” guy. Keyes is a great debater and has a brilliant mind. Here is a snipet from the PBS forum—http://tinyurl.com/379p6t—He raises hell with his Republican colleagues and the CNN moderator .. smile ohhh—and in a salute to former Governor Spitzer—client #9—here are New York’s own KNICKERBOCKERS from 65’ ------ doin’ LIES—http://tinyurl.com/2rxkvv—richie—captcha sez “congress”—RMJ—thanks for keepin’ us up-to-date on Washington’s back-alley decision making..

Posted by Richie on from st cloud / n ft myers, FL 03/14 at 11:09 AMRMJ, simultyping before-- yes, MZ’s new piece is also on a site whose initials are the same as Dennis Kucinich’s. What, are you a masochist, or just trying again to spread the word no matter what?
Let’s say the DK comments are a little different than the DV ones.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/14 at 11:47 AMAnd Ritchie, have fun with Alan Keyes later. What an odd experience that must be. And hope you had a good MS Awareness Week-- On Monday, Governor Spitzer issued this press release:
http://www.ny.gov/governor/press/0310081.htmlThough unfortunately it was overshadowed by the other more pathetic ones he’s had to issue since then.
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 03/14 at 11:49 AMI’ll post that article here no later than Sunday. As for Alan Keyes, my limited knowledge of him is not exactly positive. I’m curious to see what Richie thinks.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/14 at 01:44 PMAs life becomes increasing oppressive, people’s cloak of fear increases...not good. Authorities rely on keeping the masses frightened, in line, masses then behave more like authorities, oppressive to their fellow man. How can this be addressed...people wear their fear like a second skin, unaware of it, and of themselves. I see people increasing defensive, guarded, censoring their every thought and gesture. Hatred and anger are up...authorities love this condition.
Posted by joe of maine on from 03/14 at 02:49 PMRichie...Awaiting your thoughts on Alan Keyes. I have seen a lot of him in the past. He is very intelligent - an impressive speaker and great debater. I disagree with him about 90% of the time.
I agree with Rev. Jeremiah Wright about 90% of the time. If I had time (which I don’t), I would write an article titled “Why Wright is Right”. They are doing the same thing to him as they did to W Churchill. It bothers me when they beat up on someone just because they tell the truth about this country.
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/14 at 06:19 PMHi, Richie #18 and 19 and Mickey #22: must say that re Keyes I agree with Mickey here: ‘my limited knowledge of him is not exactly positive’- to put it mildly in my case.
It is still far too warm for the season in Daylesford: ‘only’ 95F today, which is,however, at least 15 degrees (Celsius) above average.
Have a good weekend, all you expendables!
Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 03/14 at 06:59 PMWell, now that we’ve all danced around it, Richie, here’s a few things about Keyes (from the always reliable Wikipedia):
Among the U.S. delegation to the 1984 World Population Conference in Mexico City, Keyes was selected by Reagan as deputy chairman. In that capacity, Keyes negotiated the language of the Mexico City Policy to withhold federal funds from international organizations that support abortion. Additionally, Keyes fought against an Arab-backed UN resolution calling for investigation of Israeli settlements. The measure passed 83-2, with 15 abstentions and only Israel and the U.S. voting against it. Reagan again appointed Keyes to represent the U.S. in the 1985 Women’s Conference in Nairobi. During his time at the State Department, Keyes defended the Reagan policy opposing the imposition of economic sanctions on South Africa as punishment for apartheid. Stated Keyes, “I see the black people in South Africa as the most critical positive factor for eliminating apartheid and building the future of that country ... And that is not something you do with rhetoric, slogans and noninvolvement. It’s not something you will achieve through disinvestment.”
In August 2003, Keyes came out in defense of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, citing both the U.S. Constitution and the Alabama constitution as sanctioning Moore’s (and Alabama’s) authority to publicly display the Ten Commandments in the state’s judicial building.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/14 at 07:11 PMRev. Jeremiah Wright says.........."God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”
In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda’s attacks because of its own terrorism.
“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye,” Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.
“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost,” he told his congregation.....”
Posted by RMJ on from Ward Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/14 at 07:14 PMNow, let’s all watch Obama twist an ankle as he awkwardly runs away from his former pastor.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 03/14 at 08:54 PMIsn’t Alan Keyes just a little to the right of Pat Buchanan? But more religious?
And here’s more about Obama:
