For the short URL, you can use the donor supported TinyURL http://tinyurl.com/ Just paste the link from your browser into the box on the page. For the NY Times, use this page http://nytimes.blogspace.com/genlink or drag the bookmarklet they provide into your web browser’s “favorites” bar.

Some people don’t like the shortened URL because it’s used by trolls to redirect them to offensive pages or pages that will crash a browser. I never click on them unless I have reason to trust the person who posted them.

I would say so. The tools are provided for everyone’s use, regardless of their point of view, and it’s convenient for you and your readers. It strikes me as the best part of an anarchic way of thinking. Bug Me Not is the same kind of thing http://www.bugmenot.com/

Real people are amazingly considerate compared to the corporate media caricatures.
