Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
ok, now I am really feeling like a single cell in the petri dish of life! reminds me of Spencer Tunick’s nude art photos. Meanwhile I have just discovered that a one-time payment of 50 bucks gets me a lifetime streaming feed of 3000 tv channels thru my PC. This does not bode well for my burgeoning waist line!
I am also wondering what these articles are doing on the weather page…
http://www.wlky.com/weather/13267015/detail.htmlPosted by Frances on from bc 05/07 at 07:46 AMyes...obey the laws written by insane, incompetent authorities...ignore natures laws which govern all things...they have made it clear, if no insurance, if no money...you WILL have pain
Posted by joe of maine on from 05/07 at 09:05 AMnotes from the subway in answer to mickey z’s statistics:
the power elites literally get away with murder, while their media pull the wool over our eyes. to avoid this we should suspend all belief in and withdraw our support for the present social contract (loyalty to fatherland, common trust in the rigged voting system and our debilitating thirst for economic security) by trying to start a national movement for avoiding to pay federal taxes and initiating a wide refusal to be intimidated through all threats of retaliation. it will be extremely hard to do because it will involve a release of the utopian view that was drummed into us from grade school onward. that is the weakness of our materialist dream which remains unbroken by the harsh reality that is constantly visited on the less fortunate here and abroad. It may not even be necessary to prepare for this because the glut of corporate take-over deals in the western world is a sure sign of an approaching and engineered world wide depression worse than 1929 because it shows the defensive actions from the large corporations to stay in the game while all small competitors in the economic feeding frenzy need to be weeded out, a normal business strategy but at what cost to the public… all western economies are being broken open for neo-liberal, i.e. free roaming capitalist conquests, in england by the continuing labor party dominance, in germany by the merkel regime, now in france by that of sarkozy, and in the east by abe in japan and in china by it’s ruling class, all enemies of the well fare state, which itself may be a weak solution to population growths, but as a solution to regulate incomes is a lot more humane in the old fashioned sense than what we see now. moreover the forced devaluation of the buying power of the dollar while making america inc. more competitive, will hurt the less affluent enormously when the crunch comes. americans are in an unique position at present to put a spoke into the wheels of capitalism because it shows signs of breaking down here after it has clearly proven to be anti-human and a pipe dream only benefiting authoritarians and criminals. however to despair is a ‘sickness unto death’ as the philosopher Kierkegaard writes, and because we have seen what capitalism does to society and to the morals of its inhabitants (see the statistics of mickey’s latest comment), we are guilty of omission if we would not act. my hope is that sooner rather than later, this country will wake up to its own bondage.Posted by wim voetpad on from 05/07 at 09:39 AMHello Expendables...from a sunny but windy Astoria. How are you, Frances and Joe? Wim, do I know you? No matter because you’re in the early lead for line of the day: americans are in an unique position at present to put a spoke into the wheels of capitalism because it shows signs of breaking down here after it has clearly proven to be anti-human and a pipe dream only benefiting authoritarians and criminals.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/07 at 11:53 AMHi Joe and frances.....
I have not yet read the links but want to drop a comment on the comments. WIM #3 and Mickey #4, you are being very optimistic. All of those in my generation and many younger folks were brain washed in our youth. We were taught that being a Capitalist was the only path to sainthood. It was drummed into our little school child heads every day that capitalism is good and socialism is evil. That brain-washing is evident every day in this country. One of the remaining institutionalized prejudices is that which exists against the poor. I sort of eluded to that yesterday when I commented on the fallacy of judging anyone by his papers hanging on his wall. Poor people don’t get to go on the paper chase. They get to go to work in the fields, factories, fast-food joints, etc. I have no hope for any country that worships Capitalism as much as the usa does. It will continue down its self-ordained path, destroying lives, exploiting other countries, and soiling the planet. Why should any Capitalist change? By definition a Capitalist is someone who places a higher value on money than on humanity. Capitalism will continue to keep its stranglehold on humanity until there is an opposition party in the usa or massive intervention from outside. When was the last time that Socialists, Greens, Anarchists, etc had an impact on any usa election? Your optimism scares me.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 05/07 at 02:05 PMRMJ: Please don’t misconstrue my appreciation for Wim’s line as optimism.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/07 at 02:07 PMMickey, sorry...even the most remote hint of optimism scares me.

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/07 at 03:12 PMRef: #2 Well, it is/was a very nice, sunny day, perfect for a visit to your local VA hospital. One of the nicer sites to visit at the VA hospital is the pharmacy line...watching people walk away with bags filled with toxins, souvenirs from the pharmaceutical companies, one might think. yes...capitalism, where we bring good things to death $$$
Posted by joe of maine on from 05/07 at 03:48 PMI like the worldometer link. I like the overview it provides. Its reassuring...somehow. It tells me that we humans are very insignifacant in the grand scale of things. That we are involved in a process we know very little of anything about. That some of us have a maniacal need/compulsion to control this process and that this is what causes most of the suffering. A few try to control the many with fear and its not working very well. Its a really bad experiment gone horribly wrong. When people are no longer willing to be ruled by fearful lies then things will change.
I watched an interesting documentary on the weekend about the faking of the moon landing. The clincher for me was watching those astronauts faces while being interviewed after the journey.
Chamlers Johnson claims that the missile shields dont work properly...never have. 9/11. constant threats to wipe out some country and start WW?? Nothing good can come of greed induced deception.
The only remedy I see is to live our Truth. Joyfully. Wholeheartedly.
Perhaps the comming ‘collapse’ is what will prompt us to do just this...live our truth...whatever that looks like.Meanwhile,in the search for internet tv I found TVU...free software that gives me a few channels of english programing and a whole bunch of chineese stuff. Talk about lame, 3 weeks without tv and already I am jonesing for comedy central!
Hope everyone is having a good vibes day.Posted by frances on from cool and clammy bc coast 05/07 at 03:55 PMI really like your sense of humor Joe...biting.

Posted by James on from work 05/07 at 04:25 PMHi all. Thing about the worldometer link, Frances, is that it has no interest in providing an overview. It just sells products to clients. Who are the clients? The people/companies that pay for the ads. What are the products? The people who look at the page. That’s it.
I hate the internet.
Posted by Keir on from the hague 05/07 at 04:30 PMEnergy flows where attention goes, Keir.
I wasnt looking at anything but the spinning numbers and saw something else.
i am a product of my own imaginings....no one elses.
The nets ok with me.Posted by frances on from bc 05/07 at 04:46 PM...I couldn’t help but smile a little at this classic expendable exchange between Mick and RMJ:

I know what you mean.

Hi JOS, Keir, James, frances, WIM, and Mickey.
It is time to get ready for the white tie White House Dinner. Hummmm, what should I wear. Which ball gown would be just right for the festivities. Must hurry. Can’t keep the Queen waiting…Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 05/07 at 05:55 PMSpeaking of waiting queens, Rudy’s ready for the ball:
Hello JOS, James, and Keir.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/07 at 05:59 PMLet’s have another round of applause for capitalism...in Maine...the Black Bear issue is hot again.
This is the baiting, trapping and killing of Black Bear for tourist hunter’s dollars.
It’s part of the Maine economy they say. Some brain dead biologist comes along and says it’s a good idea because he heard someone with a British accent say so on a PBS Wildlife series.
How cool he is that he has watched the Cheetah catch the Thompson Gazelle a thousand times over the last 40 years!...Kill, Kill, Kill, Black Bears, people, entire eco-systems...yes let’s have a huge round of applause for the system that verifies hourly, how stupid, how human evolution is completely sabotaged!Posted by joe of maine on from 05/07 at 06:10 PMLou Reed sez:
Well Americans don’t care for much of anything
Land and water the least
And animal life is low on the totem pole
with human life not worth more than infected yeastAmericans don’t care too much for beauty
They’ll shit in a river, dump battery acid in a stream
They’ll watch dead rats wash up on the beach
and complain if they can’t swimThey say things are done for the majority
Don’t believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear
It’s a lot like what my painter friend Donald said to me
“Stick a fork in their ass and turn them over, they’re done”Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/07 at 06:29 PMI wish someone would stick a fork in my ass...after that, I don’t care what they do...I,m simply tired of being shunned...Shunning, the real american pastime...don’t say hello to anyone you haven’t known for at least 35 years...don’t talk to strangers, it’s not nice to be friendly...if someone holds the door from shutting, why...they must be some kind of pervert or sex fiend. Don’t piss on the bushes, we don’t like plant life......
Posted by joe of maine on from 05/07 at 06:38 PMThats why I left Toronto 20 years ago Joe. It was so rough I started to shun myself...I knew I had had enough when one day I couldnt get off the streetcar...I was rooted to my seat trying to decide if I really existed!...I kid you not.
funny thing though, when Americans came up they always commented on how friendly everyone was!
thanks for the memories (-:Posted by frances on from bc 05/07 at 06:51 PMThat’s interesting Frances...during my brief visits to Canada, British Columbia and New Brunswick, I felt Canadians were friendlier and in general more aware...perhaps it was my strong desire to find someone who wasn’t part of the land of the living dead.
Posted by joe of maine on from 05/07 at 06:57 PMSmall town canada people are great Joe. Its the people in big cities that are so toxic. At least thats how it seems to me.
I had an interesting experience several years ago while shopping in a big dept. store. A combo of plastic fumes perfume elevator music unhappy shoppers and all the rest was giving me a killer headache. I had a sudden inspiration to look each person in the eyes and aknowledge them as spirit...that somewhere in there was spirit. Within a very short time people were smiling and my headache was gone. Could have been coincidence, I dont know. Try it sometime and see if it works. Let me know. I am curious.Posted by frances on from bc 05/07 at 07:16 PMAnd life goes on - there’s much food for thought in this post, Mickey. As for yours truly, she’ll be off to Melbourne again for a couple of days tomorrow. Hopefully, we’ll get a new car on Thursday - our ‘other car’ is 20 1/2 years old and has been breaking down frequently in the last few months, and sometimes on very busy roads. Mr Helga needs a car for his work - he is a tradesman.
Enough about us - hello to frances, Joe of Maine, wim voetpad, Rosemarie, James, Keir and JOS. Such illustrious company!
We have had a few beautiful autumn/fall days in Daylesford - sunshine, almost blue sky and temperatures around the 70F mark. The best time of the year.
Goodbye until Thursday/Friday,

Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 05/08 at 12:39 AMhi mick, you know who I am as you invited me to write on your website and I have made several entries under your ‘should bush and cheney be impeached ?’. as for rmj, capitalism advances technology at a higher speed but it is totally destroying the human factor. this hollowness is what we are faced with today. it makes for a very sad state of mind and the despair felt in their heart by so many is what keeps the system in fact going as it becomes a feeling of guilt and insecurity all at once, used to make people controllable. to be a progressive or a revolutionary is therefore a joyful act, a refusal to comply with the restrictions put on us to be alive and aware, even though recognizing that one remains part of the problem because after all you have to survive. because indeed all the cards are stacked against liberation from this system, the best we can do is try to organize an exuberant mass civil disobedience or close to it, as was done by the young in the nineteensixties. it is extremely hard for the power elites to contain this and it may result in a change of policies. on the other hand it appears by now that events will take care of themselves for the american state because the world has changed well beyond what the regime can understand and I subsume under that not only the vested interests but the bi-party system and their bureaucracies as well. there are a lot of good people around, but like most of the population they are cowed by what they see as overwhelming odds. well, america is not made that way, it will allow for self expression right or wrong and we should make use of that wonderful opportunity. they can come with patriot acts three, four, five and six, but the human spirit, rmj remains irrepressible. how do you think people in iraq, palestine and somalia keep going ? we should wake up from our materialist dream (if only there were princes to kiss us awake), dare to live with less and join humanity.
