Mr. Burroughs, Mr. Marley, Mr. Laurel, Mr. Hardy, & Expendable JOS

  1. Good morning Mickey and everyone...I can’t do youtube from home computer.

A cool, quiet rainy day on the Coast of Maine. I will be spending the afternoon in a serene, wooded area near the bay. Hopefully I can clear my head of some garbage for a few hours?

  2. That is amazing, Mick.  Thanks for mentioning the chapbook and putting up one of my poems.  By the way, I caught your latest story at Cerebral Catalyst, it was excellent.

As I’ve told you already...about two months ago I was no longer able to access your site from work or my home computer.  Very strange as this had never happened before and then happened on both the computers I have regular access to at the same time!  I am here on a family member’s computer today.

I believe that things happen in my life for a reason and my forced absence has led me to a hiatus from reading/writing/arguing/seething about the political and social problems that have been my obsession for so many years.  I even shut down Why Do They Hate US?  It has been very good for me to take this break, but I have missed my good friends here at MZ’s a great deal.  I am currently in the midst of a move and hope to have a new Internet connection soon and will then try loading some different browsers...perhaps I will be back sooner rather than later.

Hello to all...happy Thanksgiving.  I am off to travel around the chicago area all day visiting different family members...maybe I’ll catch you all later.

Thanks again, Mick...you are the man!

  3. MZ, this made my day. For me, the most resonant line is “[Thanks] For decent church-goin’ women, with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces,” but that may be ‘cause I’m from New England, the home office of Puritan savagery in North America.

JOS, you also made my day - a mirror image of the soldier’s saying about “months of sheer boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror.” The terror happens every day, and humanity is on the run. (the quality, that is, not the 6+ billion of us choking this innocent planet)

Greetings to all the Expendables, whether or not your heathen souls float above the ideological terrain to be blessed, truly, by Thanksgiving. Thhhppt.

  4. Hello Expendables...from balmy Astoria. It always warms my cold bitter heart to see Joe and Zen here...but JOS is an expected surprise. Welcome, friends.

I just returned from the gym and that prompted me to add to the original post...so please check it out.

  5. I found Burroughs thanksgiving prayer elsewhere..

    “Thanks for the American dream,
To vulgarize and to falsify until
    the bare lies shine through.”

I just sent an email to the Maine Department of Peace...whatever the hell that department is supposed to do? For so many, the ‘bare lies’ are not shining through and the american dream has always been a nightmare that many want to maintain, perhaps for the predictability of it all, the lies are more comfortable than change being too uncertain..."give me my six-pack, give me my TV, but please, just let me alone” Peter Finch in Network.

  6. Random thoguhts:

This morning I read an article about Animal shelters and the adoption of Turkeys.
No meat eaters allowed of course.
    MZ, I thought of you.

Just back from a walk to the local village.
    It is frighteningly warm here.
Anyway, while sitting on a bench on the Green enjoying the quiet, a father and son walked by.
Dad felt a need to show sonny the grand war memorial in the center of the Green.
The more things change, the more they stay the same, with the circle unbroken.

    Short term goal:
To passively participate in today’s ritual with those most responsible for my existence.

Ritual is a double edged sword to say the least.

    Peace

  8. JOS...Congratulations again on your success with the book, also I really like wdthu !
joe, Zen, and Tommy… Yes, ritual is a two edged sword. This can be a difficult time of year for many.
Mickey #7… me too. I just got out my old boots. I don’t need a new pair. The ones I have are fine - nice and warm. I need them now. It has gotten cold up here.

  9. Mickey...7...I agree Buy Nothing...I had a friend years ago...the only gift he would ever give for any occasion was a bushel basket of fruit and nuts. [It would also be great if one weaved their own personal basket, grew their own fruits and nuts.]

  10. It’s getting cold here, too.

Confession: I did buy something today but it was at the local health food store so I’m not sure it contradicts the spirit of the day.

  11. Mickey...10...ah HA! you bought something...well...years ago, Haine oils were sold mostly through healthy food stores...it was discovered at the time, the parent company of Haine also made Abram army tanks...corporate america...’who made who’!

It’s difficult buying anything these days without propping up some undesirable entity. A Japanese nutritionist remarked about the american diet and amerikans excess consumption of toilet paper. How fitting…

  12. joe and Mickey...I didn’t buy anything in a store but since I used electric power and heating oil, actually I DID buy something. I doubt that I’ll make it through the night without turning the heat on. It’s supposed to go down to the teens.

  13. RMJ..12...I’ve always been curious about possible ways to heat that are very inexpensive or free...maybe we could mind-storm this???
