Posted by JOS on from Oak Park 04/29 at 06:51 PMThanks for the head’s up, JOS.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/29 at 07:00 PMMickey, I am beginning to think the the coming economic collapse will force many people to leave their sedentary lifestyles and move to being more active in order to survive(hunting, gathering). Sadly, I believe many of us will die because we have no idea how to survive without the corporate perks(easy to get cheap food and clothing) we have all survived on for our entire lives. We just were never taught any other way. I once read somewhere that civilized society is only held together by a very thin web and if the majority of people miss more than 3 straight meals it will all collapse around us as hungry people start killing and stealing from each other. I don’t care how much food you have stored away or how big your ammo stash is, If enough hungry people come after what you have and you resist you will die.
Posted by David on from Louisville KY 04/29 at 07:13 PMI am making plans to move to a more rural part of the state(Where I have family). I don’t want my family stuck in a big city when the grid goes down. I believe our chances will be much better in a farming community where people are used to growing thier own food. There’s also a natural spring in the area for drinkable water. Maybe I’m fooling myself but I just can’t sit here and wait for it to happen.
Posted by David on from Louisville KY 04/29 at 07:19 PMHappy Birthday from me as well, Mickey! So you celebrate the 30th anniversay of your 18th birthday tomorrow - let me do the maths: YOU TURN 48!!
What you write about your late 91-year-old Dad, Richie (#1), could also be said about my Dad who turns 92 next Wednesday and, apart from being deaf, is very agile mentally. He keeps reading papers and books and is interested in all sorts of things. Another refutation of the thesis that we lose brain cells as we grow older.
And greetings to Tommy, JOS and David as well from a cool Daylesford. Still - I’d rather have 60F than 90F, which must be due at least partly to all those extra kilos I carry ..

And Happy Birthday. How will you celebrate?
David #9: sounds like a great idea. I understand agribidness now owns most of the seed companies. Try ‘Seeds of Change’ for organics, ‘n’ sow them far and wide.
Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 04/29 at 09:14 PMGood luck, David. I hope you’ll continue to stay in touch. And thanks, Helga and Zen, for your good wishes. Typically, Michele and I do a whole “birthday weekend” concept. This year, my first birthday since losing my Mom, things will be much more low key.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 04/29 at 09:16 PMHappy Birthday, Mickey--
How do you know when you’re getting old?
(Joke told by an elderly comedian here in SF)
You bend over to tie your shoelaces and you look for other things to do while you are down there!
Little short for time-- may I recommend “Handle With Care” (Traveling Wilburys)
Ritchie-- you need your own website to highlight your literary merits-- me, maybe one day
Best wishes to all.....

My sister, another Deadhead, picked a good tarot this week:
Too many good ones in a row… makes me nervous.... like “famous Deadheads” Nancy Pelosi and Bill Clinton! Check it out-- it’s at the Wikapedia!
But then aren’t we headed into the age of Aquarius?
Can’t go wrong with the Beatles though!
Off again....
