Narrow walkway near the tracks
I liked this. I like poetry that reads like a story, prose poetry, I believe it’s called.
However, what exactly makes this a poem, rather than a story with strange line breaks?
What motivated you to tell it as a poem?
Posted by Troy on from ottawa 04/08 at 02:44 PMGood question, Troy. Lawrence Ferlinghetti once said this about Buk:
“Bukowski’s poetry was essentially stories, just like his prose. It just happened some days that he didn’t get the carriage of the typewriter to the end of the line. Depends on how badly hungover he was when he started to type.”
Well, I’m not one to be hungover and I’m obviously on a computer not a typewriter...still, for me, it’s as arbitrary as Ferlinghetti implies. Without any formal training as a writer, I guess I make it up as I go along.
