Obama, McCain, March 19...yawn
Great commentary Mickey...What I think I see on a daily basis, are people completely asleep, numb, not knowing what to do, it appears few care about anything...wark, go home, get high, escape, no regard for anything REAL, anyone else, no concern for life itself. “everything will be okay because I go to church”, the little lady says, while gabbing on the cell. Few people seem to object to anything, except for their bold objection to being caught in their corruption. Few people seem to be able to deal with anything that makes them slightly uncomfortable, yet, bow to any abusive authority?
Posted by joe of maine on from 02/29 at 10:28 AMHello Expendables. You’re dead on, as usual, Joe.
Btw, if you click on the name “Obama” in the main post, you’ll find a great article about the motivational speaker written by Nader’s running mate.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 02/29 at 11:49 AMMZ and Joe—If I could transport myself I would bring 2 of me to the BOHEMIAN BEER HALL IN ASTORIA ---- and ..... I would pick up Joe and RMJ on the way ...... Looks like James from Hell’s Kitchen is the closest to the Hall in real time transport—JAMES ... If you can go ---- Have a pitcher of HEINEKEN ....... for me ... richie ..... or a sixer of BLATZ ....... smile capcha says there—
Posted by richie on from st cloud/n ft myers fl 02/29 at 01:35 PMMICK - JOE - JAMES - RMJ ........ I closed my eyes ... and these gents appeared out of nowhere to pick me up ... http://tinyurl.com/327qbm ---- we may get to the CZECH SOCAL HALL a wee bit late .. smile richie
Posted by richie on from st cloud/n ft myers fl 02/29 at 01:45 PMI might be late for it, Richie, but I definitely plan to leave work early as possible that night and catch as much as I can of the Astoria talk.
So this kind of post kind of depresses me more than maybe it’s supposed to. I know you’re not saying not to bother being vegan, not to bother buying recycled products… and I feel guilty enough about my having a cell phone but hard to deal with the alternative right now. But I know that neither my guilt nor missed calls will bring back the gorillas or save the future. Maybe Drew at Toothpaste for Dinner put it best last night:
Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 02/29 at 01:53 PMMICKEY—I just took a glance at ASTORIANS FOR PEACE .. and liked what I observed. I linked to the fm radio stream of the station the group asssociates with and I ENCOURAGE all EXPENDABLES to give a listen .... here is the link to WBAI ... enjoy .. and learn.. http://tinyurl.com/3xjg3u or http://www.WBAI.org ....... ps .. I would love to hear WBAI “remote” your March talk ... at the Bohemian Hall .. so we could all give a listen ... If they can’t do a live remote ... perhaps ASTORIANS FOR PEACE (or WBAI) could record the talk—put a lisening link up on their site ... and my transport dream would come true ... just a thought richie
Posted by richie on from st cloud/n ft myers fl 02/29 at 02:39 PMThanks, Richie. In all my years of living in NYC and doing what I do, I’ve only been on WBAI maybe three times. Right now, I’m trying to get Alternative Radio (http://www.alternativeradio.org) to cover the event but we need someone in NYC to do an audio digital recording.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 02/29 at 03:10 PMAt this moment I’m thinking about the american consumer...a consumer is a human being, a consumer is generally incoherent...there are many...I think I need that beer that Ritchie spoke of, perhaps 30-40 beers?
Posted by joe of maine on from 02/29 at 03:14 PMOdd article right under Mickey’s on DV… pretty boring, but good that it’s there. I guess.

Posted by James on from Hell's Kitchen 02/29 at 05:15 PMSimply LOVE the ‘Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden’, Mickey - could be in Munich in my native Germany but is in the Big Apple. We simply have to visit this place on the occasion of our next visit to NYC - maybe we could meet you there? And that is a very good article btw.
And hello, Joe of Maine, richie and James as well as the other expendables who might comment later. It is the first day of autumn/fall down under and sunny if cool (70F). We are off to Adelaide in neighbouring South Australia until next Thursday, 6 March and will then be in Melbourne until 9 March, so I won’t ‘call in’ for 7 or so days. Have a great weekend first of all, and I hope next week turns out to be a good one for you.
Ciao,
HelgaPosted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 02/29 at 06:02 PMYes, a great post MZ. And Matt Gonzalez didn’t have to work up a sweat to completely gut Obama.
I can only add “Soylent Green is people” and this:

Posted by Zen Prole on from Urth 02/29 at 06:20 PMMickey—(hello Helga) ... James, Joe ..and Family… I dropped in on Alternative Radio ... I see what you mean, Mickey—a vast network.. lots of College Radio connections as well. The speakers list is fantastic and you would be welcome company.. Someone from your “rocker daze” has got to have the “digi” goodies… or even a digi vid cam for sound and video ..... We’d have you up on youtube in minutes—lift the audio and get that cooking the airwaves as well… It’s time to turn up the “heat” on the campaign trail ..... get your “voice” out there and let the world discover the “multi-media” Mick—author (x) .... great thinker (x) ... performer ... (x) .... video-superfly (aka - the Chuck Norris for Progressives) (x)... MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER (x) web personality (x)...... etc - etc..... Posted by Helga Fremlin on from Daylesford, Australia 02/29 at 08:07 PMHere is an excellent video that a friend told me about:
I left a comment there with my typical sticky typewriter key.
Yes, I am getting excited again. Matt Gonzalez is a good man.
Posted by Robert B. Livingston on from San Francisco, California 03/01 at 01:50 AMThis one’s for joe, James, Zen, and all who have ever had abuse from employers (which would include most of us)... one more reason to vote for Nader!
