Rosemarie Jackowski, Eugene Debs, and Jack Kerouac all say NO to war

Posted by Mickey Z on 09/12 at 04:53 AM
  1. resistance is definitely about more than one person but here is a song that is just about one...it is one the other hand extremely funny..

Here’s what to say when the recruiters come..

Phil Ochs - The Draft Dodger Rag

I’m just a typical American boy from a typical American town
I believe in God and Senator Dodd and keeping old Castro down
And when it came my time to serve I knew better dead than red
But when I got to my old draft board, buddy, this is what I said:

(Chorus) Sarge, I’m only eighteen, I got a ruptured spleen
And I always carry a purse
I got eyes like a bat, my feet are flat, and my asthma’s getting worse
O think of my career, my sweetheart dear, and my poor old invalid aunt
Besides, I ain’t no fool, I’m a goin’ to school, and I’m working in a defense plant

I’ve got a dislocated disc and a racked up back
I’m allergic to flowers and bugs
And when the bombshell hits, I get epileptic fits
And I’m addicted to a thousand drugs
I got the weakness woes, and I can’t touch my toes
I can hardly reach my knees
And if the enemy came close to me
    I’d probably start to sneeze

    (chorus)

I hate Chou En Lai, and I hope he dies,
but one thing you gotta see
That someone’s gotta go over there
    and that someone isn’t me
So I wish you well, Sarge, give ‘em Hell
Yeah, Kill me a thousand or so
And if you ever get a war without blood and gore
Well I’ll be the first to go

  2. I love that song, Michael.

    Mickey, it’s PBU37 today, not PBU36.

I’ve got an evolving post going on the topic here:

    Where is everyone?

  3. >>>Where is everyone?<<<

In my case, seeing if I can work out something with my notoriously law-and-order county regarding possible community service instead of time in the pokey for the heinous crime of not being able to afford car insurance.

I won’t get started on the greedy bastard insurance companies (we pay the highest rates anywhere for several types of insurance that we’re required to have), or the damnfool idiot cops who can legally stop you for a light being out and then just see what else they can find to fine you for, as I have other things to do.

    Merry Monday!

  4. Shit, Richard, that really sucks.  I hope they give you community service.

The damn insurance companies can actually put you in JAIL for not paying them their outrageous dues, then when something happens and THEY have to pay they say stuff like...we’ll pay for the replacement the parts, but after subtracting depreciation, and after the deductible, and no we won’t pay for a rental, or if we do it won’t cover the entire cost and don’t forget to pay your bill this month.  The police should be over there arresting people for racketeering.

    Anyway… good luck, Richard.

  6. Hey Michael, James, and Richard.

It’s sort of deflating to think how little we can do to help Rosemarie (or even that guy who told off Cheney). You write letters and the papers won’t even run them.

  7. Thank you, Lames, for the well-wishes.  I can’t even get a court date until I agree to pay the fines, it seems.  Legal Aid isn’t very interested in this since it’s not easy, but they have to by their own charter listen to me as I discuss this AND chapter 7 bankruptcy.  Maybe Wednesday when I have that fun meeting.

While I don’t grudge the evacuees access to local jobs for a second, I was told today that because of relaxed credential standards for evacuees, the six jobs I applied for last week have been filled.

I’m having a sucky day and I’m venting about it here, and I can’t be civil so I am going off into a corner to whine to myself.

  8. Of course I menat “James” and I apologize for the typo I didn’t notice in time, JAMES.

Ben Marble does indeed ROCK and I wish I could buy his MP3s.  Kinda useless, though, since I don’t have an MP3 player anywhere...removed it from the computer when I bought it, silly me!

  9. Richard, your situation highlights how America neglects those in need...until there’s no choice but to act. Almost 30,000 New Orleans households lived on less than $10,000 per year. Why no attention paid to them until the hurricane? But when Katrina strikes, folks like you who need jobs get shoved aside as America does its big flag-waving charity thang.

I wish you luck dealing with yet another obstacle.

  10. Hi all you MickeyZ’ers...I have been out of touch because I have been away from the computer all day. I am using someoneelse’s at aanother location and even the keyboard is a little bit different....so I am struggling with it.  Tomorrow I am doing a speaking engagement at a very right wing college in Albany,NY. Last time that I spoke there some of the students were in military uniforms. I believe that this is one of the many colleges with a lot of miltary contracts. It is a surprize that they allow me on campus........Richard, about insurance companies, someone should offer a reward if they can find anyone without an insurance company horror story. No such person exists.I wish you luck and have a lot of compassion for you. I know how you are feeling. I have been where you are..........Someone posted a really good comment on PBU. I hope that I successfully sent it to my home computer to save.  ......Thanks Mickey for posting my reply to the Banner. The Banner has not published it. Ethically, they should publish corrections when they put out false or mis-leading info, but that is expecting too much of the Press these days.  .....No matter what happens, I am ready for the next phase of the operation here, and that is to get as much focus as possible on the photos of the Iraqi civilians. I know that all of you have seen them but how to get them to go mainstream? I want them on Rightwing, pro war sites. BTW, on page 1, the photo of the little girl in pink, with the entire back of her head blown off was the inspiration for my essay in the new book.

  11. Good luck tomorrow, Rosemarie. I look forward to hearing how it went. Also, I hope you get to visit NYC to do such a talk...maybe when the book comes out?

  12. Uh… Kerouac supported the Vietam War.  I’m not sure he’s your strongest exemplar of anti-war resistance.

  14. Go Fu** Yourself Mr. Cheney UPDATE....

Well the story has received an overwhelming amount of
global mass media coverage on a global scale including
but not limited to Time, Newsweek, Harpers, The Daily
Show, Good Morning America, Letterman, CNN, MSNBC,
Hustler, etc. Rolling Stone even called it the “BEST
TELEVISED SOUND BITE OF THE YEAR”.  Our website
    http://www.hurricanekatrinasucked.com has had over 900,000
hits as of yesterday.  I have received approx. 4000
emails 95% of which have been supportive.  I recently
wrote and recorded the dR. O tune ‘GO FU** YOURSELF
MR. CHENEY’ and managed to produce a video for the
same.  And the video we shot OURSELVES is taking the
internet by storm with thousands of downloads a day
and that pace is still rapidly growin and so I wonder
have you had a chance to watch OUR video yet???? this
is NOT the 30 second cnn/msnbc video that has been
circulation the web...this is over 30 minutes of
footage we shot ourselves on the day of my encounter
with The Dick that I had auctioned off on EVILBAY.

you should be able to download it here

    http://67.11.148.170/THEDAYIQUOTEDTHEDICKTOTHEDICK_WMV.wmv

    or here

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=71173067259949866&q=KATRINA+AFTERMATH-

In mid Sept. I had announced that I will be donating
50% of the profits from the EBAY auctions/ sales at
http://www.cafepress.com/benmarblemd to my life long friend
Jay Scully who was the actual cameraman on the day I
ran into The Dick. He and his wife both lost their
jobs due to the storm and they recently had a
premature infant born at 24 weeks who was just finally
allowed to come home i.e. they need help.  The other
50% will be donated to the SALVATION ARMY since my
grandmother worked for them for several decades. (I am
not keeping any of it to take away the right wings
ammo in their criticism that I am trying to profit off
of the misery of Katrina even though I did lose my
    home and my studio).

I will also be working on trying to make a movie about
Katrina and the aftermath.  I have shot about 15 30
minute mini-dvd’s of video starting just before
Katrina hit and I will eventually edit that down into
    a film.

My rock bands Yoon ( http://www.myspace.com/yoon ) and dR. O
    ( http://www.myspace.com/odro ) have received a ton of
positive feedback and I am in the process of trying to
see about getting some ‘press kits’ to the ‘right
people’ and setting up some gigs in Los Angeles and
    New York.

If you can help me to spread my story and/or just want
to talk feel free to email

    Thanks,
    Ben Marble, M.D.

the video footage I have shooting
