The best science money can buy (a pre-Meatout lesson)
Mickey, thanks for this post. My son gave me the book “Trust us We’re Experts” a few years ago and it started a questioning of alot of things. When I try to talk to people about this, I either get ‘boy are you wierd’ or polite silence. When I saw the news story about vegan children, I saw it for what is was--- pure propaganda. However, the news media does not go further, so we have to do the searching.
Thanks again for the confirmation.Posted by rhondda on from 03/19 at 03:04 PMThanks, Rhondda.
Stauber and Rampton have written some other excellent books, e.g. “Mad Cow USA” and “Toxic Sludge is Good For You.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from 03/19 at 04:47 PMmaybe the time has come for our species to initiate an international peace conference with the animals...of course since we can only imagine how animals communicate with each other we would need humans to represent the animals....the tragic natural disaster in asia where many ‘wild animals’ with their different instincts and intelligence were able to escape--only underscores the need “to talk”...possibly if we as a species were not so feared they might have warned us…
today science has given us the means to treat farm animals in an unimaginably cruel manner where they will not experience one happy moment...welcome to the world baby chick...is it any wonder that the development of modern technology has provided the means to terrorize and slaughter others of our own species whose only sin is to be born on land with oil below their feet? i do not think the connection between the two can be ignored any longer....
Posted by Richard Koehler on from China 03/19 at 07:28 PMThought you might appreciate these two quotes, Richard:
“While we ourselves are the living graves of murdered beasts, how can we expect any ideal conditions on this earth?”
—George Bernard Shaw“All our lauded technological progress—our very civilization—is like the axe in the hand of the pathological criminal.”
—Albert EinsteinPosted by Mickey Z. on from 03/19 at 08:34 PMInteresting book.
Toxic sludge is Good for You is also a great book by PR watch. It was also put out on video by the Media Education Foundation. They cover Mad Cow Disease and Oprah’s trial in Texas, amongst other issues. Also, on the merger of science and industry, Ulrich Beck’s Risk Society is very good. I think his concept of organized irresponsibility is very relevant, not just for the nuclear industry, but also agri-business.
