"The Greatest Thing in History"

  1. Excellent story, Mick...loved it.

  2. Thanks, JOS. It’s something from a little while back because, as you know, I haven’t been writing anything new lately.

How are you and your family holding up?

  3. Mickey and Jos == Hello.  MZ - I read the story.  Powerful moments focusing on the syncopation of the heart beat in all of us that determines our life sentence.  JOS - I think about you and your niece’s family.  I prayed a special prayer for all in my mindscape during suppertime at the VA earlier this evening.  After the meal, I called my 90 year old dad to tell him “I love you, dad, and thank you for raising me.” Dear Stan, said, “Richie, we have to go on the County.  Ma’s Nursing Home stay is costing $ 5100 per month and Medicare rejected the reinstatement claim cause’ she can no longer participate in her own rehabilitation!” I knew that.  I filed the claim as part of my duties as Financial Administrator.  We now owe the Home $ 21,000 and only used 28 of the 100 day max provided by Uncle Sam-uel.  Even with an $ 1100 per month supplementary med policy, current medical and nursing home bills for mom, total $30,000 for a stay that began in late January - 07’.  Basically, they’ll be broke even by spltting remaining assets within 3-6 months.  End of story....The rythmn of life continues....as Dylan says..."those who ain’t busy being born are busy dying!  Here’s a link to:  “For What it’s Worth”.....

Buffalo Springfield—http://tinyurl.com/2pmq8v Fall, 1966 ..........Mickey—Please keep sharing your storylines......They are powerful medicine for the soul.......Peace to you and JOS this night and always!

  4. Thanks Richie...that is extremely kind.

Mick, we’re actually doing pretty well right now...considering.  My uncle and my brother are heading back to Alaska tomorrow afternoon to continue the search.  Hopefully, things will work out.  I’ll keep you all updated.

  5. Quiet morning in the Z-World == Let’s liven it up with a lil’ tune and short story anime/board, featuring The Proclaimers - “500 Miles” .. Two of my musical buddies - Kevin Bowe and Andy Dee of The Okemah Prophets played on a recent Proclaimers CD, recorded in Minneapolis.  Enjoy!  :  http://tinyurl.com/2xb83q

  6. Good Morning everyone...Mickey...you mentioned Hulk Hogan. I think the greatest wrestler...and most skilled athlete of all time is The UnderTaker. Without a doubt he is my hero and probably the classiest dresser of all athletes!

He is what I would want my son to be if I had one.

  7. Hello Expendables...from hot, humid Astoria.

Joe, I always figured you to be a rasslin’ fan.

Richie: Good luck with all the health care red tape. As for “500 Miles,” my wife works with disabled kids and I recall them loving that song...I think.

Captcha sez: wanted (as in “dead or alive”?)

  8. Mickey..7..you said:  “I always figured you to be a rasslin’ fan.”

It’s the only honest athletic event left in america!

  9. As Mr. Zimmerman sez: “To live outside the law, you must be honest.”

  10. Mickey...9...Who is Mr. Zimmerman...is he the guy who invented the hand grenade?

  13. Yep...from Hibbing, Minnesota.

  14. Mickey..13..Well...I’ve never heard of him...!

  15. Evening Joe, Richie, JOS et al.
Zimmerman is one of the people Mr Lennon didn’t believe in.

Mickey, loved the story. Apart from making me giggle, it hit me with the thought - we really need to get shot of the idea that big world-shaking events (which are nearly always terrible anyway) are what give our lives meaning. I’m not going to tell you what the greatest things in my history are, but its none of the “world events” I’ve lived through. Well, lived at the same time as.

  16. Mickey...13...From one of the first tunes I heard by Dylan, late 60’s…

    ‘It’s alright ma...I’m only bleeding’

Temptation’s page flies out the door
You follow, find yourself at war
    Watch waterfalls of pity roar
You feel to moan but unlike before
    You discover
    That you’d just be
    One more person crying.

So don’t fear if you hear
A foreign sound to your ear
It’s alright, Ma, I’m only sighing.

  17. Mickey...I liked that “fiction”. Maybe I should change my reading habits.

JOS...I am still sad about your loved one.

joe and Mew...How are you today?

richie...thanks for telling us about that health care snafu. Everyone I know has a medical nightmare story to tell. The leading cause of bankruptcy in the usa is medical bills. My current medical story is not as bad as yours. 7 years ago I was rear-ended by a government truck. I was ambulanced to the hospital. At the time I had THREE insurance policies that covered medical care. The hospital has a “little known” policy that it does NOT bill insurance companies if the injuries are the result of an auto accident. Recently the hospital has been coming after me, with threats, harassment, etc. I cannot now go to the insurance companies because of the statute of limitations. Oh, and another little detail, the incompetent lawyer who represented me with all of this, is now suing me. He wants money too. I am considereing having one of those medic alert badges made that says, “In case of accident, do NOT transport to a hospital”. God bless amerika.

  18. RMJ..17...I agree RMJ...it’s pretty damn bad and pathetic when these vultures hold the fear of your health over your head while they’re counting dollars instead of concerning themselves with the best approach to healing.

Then these parasites will state, “well, that’s the way it is”...and that’s the problem, for being the way it is...This is worst than criminal!

Posted by joe of maine  on  from 06/18  at  01:56 PM
  19. Thanks, RMJ...I saw you asked for me the other day and I appreciate it.

  20. Hello again. I’m deeply flattered to provoke such a response from Mew and to get RMJ to contemplate her reading habits. As for “It’s alright ma...I’m only bleeding,” that song made an appearance in The Sopranos finale.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 06/18  at  02:23 PM
  21. Yes, Mickey...I just might try to get more fiction in. “It’s alright, I’m only bleeding”, reminds me of the last time that I was in the Emergency Room. It was for just a minor kitchen accident - got a deep cut, right to the bone from the lid of a tuna fish can. Blood was squirting everywhere. (Sorry, I should not have been eating something from the animal kingdom.) I went to the ER. They eventually sewed me up. It was such a hassle that when it was time to remove the stitches, I did it myself. After a few unsuccessful experiments, I found the right tool. I used a seam ripper.

joe...there is some talk about criminal charges being brought against those who stood by while Edith Rodriguez died on the ER floor… Involuntary Manslaughter, maybe. I don’t think that it will happen.

  22. RMJ..21...I don’t know if bringing charges against the medical people there will help. Perhaps forcing them to watch a video tape of Gerald Ford giving a speech would be severe enough punishment...however that would be grounds for torture accusations.

As a journalist once stated, “Gerald Ford’s thought processes are like a hippo wading through glue”

but it’s alright ma..what’s to expect from an american

  23. Enjoyed the story Mickey, new or not. I appreciate the idea of the writer not pretending there isn’t a world of shit (both in the benign sense and otherwise) going on while the characters do their thing.

JOS you’ve been in my thoughts here in The Hague as well.

RMJ when I grow up I hope I’m as tough as you.

Posted by Keir  on  from the hague 06/18  at  07:34 PM
  24. Thanks, Keir. I should clarify. When I say the story is not new, I mean it wasn’t written within the last two months.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 06/18  at  07:39 PM
  25. And I loved your story as well, Mickey.  I wish I could offer you some financial support, but my income goes towards paying off the loan we have taken out to pay for our new car, and Alan is self-employed, so there can be severe cash flow problems.  Unfortunately the bills keep coming in.

Warmest greetings from a wet and stormy Daylesford go to JOS (all best for you and for your family), Richie, Joe of Maine, Rosemarie, Mew, Keir and the Cool Observer of course.

Not only in America are there shootings:
