The Katrina Murders, Time Management for Anarchists, Cow Abductions, and other assorted links

Posted by Mickey Z on 03/08 at 05:20 AM
  1. I’ll post a silly link today; I need it, I’ll be out of a job in 3 weeks. That ‘Time Management for Anarchists’ is going to come in handy.

I’m sure this is old, but it made me smile. Next time I draw a pig, I’ll remember the tail…

  2. I was going to give you these, Mickey, in case the Wiki nonsense got you down-- who isn’t made to feel better by such images as pets in casts?

Not just cats, Mudge, so enjoy…

  3. Good morning Mickey, Mew, James…

Good links today (as though there are times when they aren’t??) upsets me to see the Navy trying the sonar again, but I’m certain it never stopped, and it seems at least on the surface, that there is some precautionary effort being made in this instance.
I like the sherrif at the end of the lamb link alluding to the second of my two most memorable Gandhi quotes - a cop with a conscience? I hope he takes that with him on his patrols.

I missed out yesterday - but Mudge I think you should have some good news for us today?
I really hope that all the Expendables woes of making a living can pass or at least take a temporary hiatus.  Life’s too full of other crappety suprises to have to constantly worry about non luxury maintenance fulfillment.  I wish everyone some good mojo in that respect.

James those links are sad / funny / cute.
Papa cat has always enjoyed playing in the bathtub - don’t know if it’s the accoustics or what, but as a youngster he launched himself into the tub one day only to discover to his horror that it was full.
Quite a site - one of those slow motion moments where I was too late to do anything other than watch.  He got himself out just fine and turned to give the offending tub a dirty look. He now ALWAYS checks to make sure it’s empty before diving in.

  4. Oh dear, Frank does the same thing, but no water mishaps. He just takes toys in there and it’s like a pinball game in the tub.

And check out her main page today:

Cat-Scans! I think I’m in love… do all you blogspotters know each other? Can you connect me somehow?

  5. Hello Expendables. Let me first add another link to the mess: Israel is in saber-rattling mode.

Empress, the early word from Mudge is that he’s been taken on by temp agency and will be employed soon. I’m “hope” he’ll be by here soon to do a better job ‘splaining it.

Thanks for the great links. James, I’ll send that animals in casts link to my Mom. She’ll love it. And Mew, I drew pig and learned:

I’m a realist. I believe in tradition, I’m friendly, and I remember dates (birthdays, etc.). I’m analytical, cautious, and distrustful....secure, stubborn, and stick to my ideals. A good listener. The quality of my sex life, however, is medium (ahem...that’s only because Michele’s been so busy with school lately...but watch out now: we’re livin’ large soon). Captcha sez: hope.

  6. P.S. Sorry to hear about job loss, Mew. There’s way too much Expendable upheaval...if you ask me.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 03/08  at  10:36 AM
  7. MZ thanks for the Mudge update - things are at least moving in the right direction.
Too much Expendable upheaval is right, and I intensly dislike the useless feeling I have upon hearing all these things.

Pig’s tails aren’t long! They’re all no more than medium in length! I will not be oppressed by my own cartoon pig!

Israel...oh it’s all so depressing.  I blathered the other day about Canada re: Afghanistan and it just gets worse by the day.  Our PM is now trotting out daily another propaganda phrase out of GWB or Rummy’s or any of your notorious leader’s handbooks.  It’s very very upsetting to see ourselves going down the same road already travelled by the US and feeling the same powerlessness that so many of you must have.
We just cannot let this go on. We should be encouraging a Peace “corps” - not a war machine.

  8. Hi Mickey, Mew, Amelopsis, James, and all yet to come…
Mew, I am sorry. Can you tell us more.
    Congrats to Mudge.
The sun is shining here today. It is still very cold but I am going outside to try to soak up some vitamin D for a few minutes. Soon I will be able to put the snow shovel away, maybe?
I’ll be back in a while.

  9. Hello all...I loved the Time Management for Anarchists link!  It was inspiring…

Sorry to hear about the job, Mew.  I do think that sometimes these things work out for the best.  I read somewhere (maybe here) that the chinese symbol for catastrophe is also the symbol for opportunity.  I am living that right now...or trying to.

I already congratulated Mudge by email, but again...congratulations, Mudge.  Of course, I think your time is worth much more than what the agency will pay you, but isn’t that true for all of us?

If we all paid full attention to the Anarchist’s link, and followed through on a daily basis...would we ever have to worry about our employer’s whims again?  I wonder…

  10. Hi JOS & RMJ,

Today’s apparently International Women’s Day. I didn’t get the memo.

Have to check the Anarchist’s link in greater detail later....busy being subjected to whims not of my own making.

  11. Happy International Women’s Day, Amelopsis!

  12. Hello again. Welcome JOS and RMJ. Empress, I added a link for International Women’s Day to the “main” post...probably after you were there. I forgot at first this morning, too.

JOS: Your link requires registration so I’ll check it later.

Speaking of links, here’s some word on what Hugo Chavez is up to in Venezuela.

Posted by Mickey Z.  on  from Astoria 03/08  at  01:14 PM
  13. sorry about the link...you can just go here:

    http://www.cursor.org/

and scroll down a little...there are several Tillman links there.

If we weren’t already overdrawn in Iraq and Afghanistan, I am pretty sure Venezuela would be in danger of a direct attack.  As it is, we fund his opponents and who knows what else.

Posted by JOS  on  from Chicago 03/08  at  01:21 PM
  14. JOS - Canada’s taken the lead in Afghanistan now so you might have troops to spare before you know it; and thanks for the congrats on the day - it should be a better day for many women in many many countries than it is. I put up a super short post - some women in Ahmedabad working in a sea of chili peppers...for a pittance, of course.

I’m torn on the Venezuelan business. But, if a country is to have a military, then I think it is best to have civilians be aware of at least some of the training. The more that the power is spread around, the better. Having too few in control of arms or armed resistance techniques is not a good thing.
I suppose I’m not really conflicted beyond my abhorance of all things violent.

I’ll have to check your Womens Day now, MZ, I did miss it, and later I usually come directly to the comments.

  15. Well, happy International Women’s Day to you, Mickey, your wife Michele, and to you, Mew, James, Amelopsis, Rosemarie and JOS.  It is actually the day after IWD in Australia - 6:58 am on a warm autumn day (about 80F).

And re Bush’s comments on this day:  women in certain parts of the US of A are also in need of liberating, as they are in parts of Europe and even in the ‘wide brown land’ which bears the name Australia.

Re Israel and its sabre-rattling:  here is Robert Parry on the recent AIPAC meeting:

  16. And thanks for the links, James!  I have already emailed the ‘animals in casts’ link to several cat/dog people.  Cute/funny/sad - all at the same time ..

  17. One last thing:  all the best for you, Mew, and for Mudge who has not yet made an appearance today.  Let’s hope all goes well.

  19. About the Hugo Chavez link...It is sad to see so much of any country’s resources being used for the military but to paraphrase something that Amelopsis said about something else, “Chavez did not pick this fight.”

Posted by RMJ  on  from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 03/08  at  04:28 PM
  20. Yeah, pets in casts and victorian collars are hilarious...unless they are your pets!  Our dog has had to wear collars on several occasions and the damaged household items and lacerated skin on my legs were uproarious. D’oh!

Three cheers for International Women!  Amelopsis, RMJ, and Helga, you and every other woman deserve much more than a day in my book.

JOS #11: The more I learn about Pat Tillman, the more painful his sacrifice becomes and the more reprehensible the military leadership appears.

MZ #12: Power to the people?  I’m going to sharpen my Spanish language skills, this is starting to sound interesting.

Has anyone seen the Iraq and a Hard Place video series on Thumping the Tub?  Outstanding.  Go there now if you haven’t.

  21. Hello to Helga & Hawk & Cart ... off to check all the videos and other goodies.

On behalf of all women everywhere (if I may be so bold) thanks for all of your nice Women’s Day wishes!

(Still hoping to hear from Mudge with some good news)

  22. Hey Kung fu Writer Monkey and Expendable Nation,

    Ever walk through a landfill?
There are mountains of things that will out live humanity as far as the eye can see.
On its face this article’s subject seems like a good thing but I always worry about repercussions and unintended consequences of such scientific ‘advances’… Mutants, okay, I fear mutants....

    “Immortal Styrofoam Meets its Enemy”
“Help may come from bacteria that have been found to eat Styrofoam and turn it into useable plastic. This is the stuff recycling dreams are made of: Yesterday’s cup could become tomorrow’s plastic spoon.”
    http://tinyurl.com/q7ylh

Now if only benevolent ‘science’ could come up with a cure for the very common foul baby diaper mountains.
