"The lies are necessary"

Posted by Mickey Z on 08/24 at 05:37 AM
  1. Good morning all....welcome home, Mickey.

Keir...where are you? We want to sing “Happy Birthday” to you !!!

Excellent Jensen quote there on the front page.  It seems a little too optimistic to me. If we were lying to each other about the way we are misusing each other and the planet, it would be evidence that we understand what’s happening. In my view we don’t know, we don’t want to know, and we just don’t give a damn. How can a people care about the future generations, when we don’t even care about the homeless man on the corner. If the deaths of 500,000 children have no impact on a nation, that nation should be terminated - the sooner, the better.

  4. Here’s another quote relevant to today’s comment.

“Mankind is caught in a great illusion. It thinks it can solve its problems through legislation, through political and social reform, through scientific and technological progress, through greater knowledge, greater wealth, greater power and greater control. It may solve some problems with all this; but those are all trivial problems and temporary curse. They will have the effect of aspirin but they will not cure the disease. We shall go on creating new problems on the one hand and trying to solve them on the other, to maintain the illusion of “progress”. And not much time is left now, for the disease is growing at a wild pace and is about to consume Man. If man does not transform inwardly, through a mutation in his psyche, he will soon join the list of those unfortunate creatures that lives a million years or so on this planet and then became extinct for they could not adapt themselves. It is not certain yet if the evolution of man from the ape was really a step in the direction of survival or a retrograde step. Only time will tell”

My words...what are we waiting for?

  5. Beautifully put, joe. I’m with you on this but maybe changing the tides would be easier than changing the psyche of man.

  6. RMJ...5...that was not my quote, I agree with it.

I think he is saying the individual must become conscious, beyond socio-political hipness. We must reach a place of understanding so that all the muck doesn’t weigh us down...push buttons. We can only do this in small scale. We must contribute as little as possible to the system of toys and lies, referenced earlier. There are things we might need to do...if bush is in our heads 24 hours a day, there is no time for anything truly worthwhile!

Changing what tides? Changing the minds of 300 million or more people.

  7. John Lennon sung it awhile back

    Instant karmas gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
    You better get yourself together
Pretty soon youre gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin to do
Its up to you, yeah you

    Instant karmas gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
    Better get yourself together darlin
    Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
    Laughin at fools like me
Who in the hell dyou think you are
    A super star
    Well, right you are

    Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
    Well we all shine on
    Evryone come on

    Instant karmas gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
    Better recognize your brothers
    Everyone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
    When youre everywhere
    Come and get your share

    Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
    Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on

  8. joe...I agree again - I have always referred to what you speak about as living an “examined” life. Culture and schools have, in the past, been the most inhibiting factors to my achieving the goal of a completely “examined” life. Bush is insignificant to me.///// Most here will not agree, but one of the good things that I did learn in school was how to examine my conscience. I think that that led to my appreciation for living an examined life - that, and how to diagram sentences is all I learned of any value in school. All the rest of what was taught, I am still trying to unlearn.

  9. Hi all. My writer friend (the one who never got paid by Cockburn) and I were talking and saying we could have a Mickey Z film and radio night. Listen to your internet radio interviews if there are any archived and see the C-span interview. Do you have any links Mickey, so we can have our Mickey Z night? We were hoping this weekend. How cool is that for a good night? We just need the C-span and radio internet links. I’ll wait to hear back from you. This could be a regular event.

Alison: Yes, I believe Laura Flanders is Cockburn’s niece. Isn’t there a word for that? It’s a shame Mickey doesn’t debate your points. Exploitation of writers is terrible no matter where it takes place. Mickey- debate that?

  10. Okay, I’ve tried to wait it out but I guess I should end the charade. “Alison from Toronto” and “Bob from New York” have the same IP address (based in Australia). Their Cockburn obsession has taken up enough space here so I am asking the Expendables to ignore the troll from now on.

  11. Oh dear. What’s is so threatening about trying to see if Mickey Z is really a live human with voice interviews? Who has ever really heard Mickey Z live? Why does Mickey Z run so many promotions for CounterPunch? While we’re asking about Mickey Z, why don’t we ask who is the author Chris Owen. Check out the website http://www.chrisowen.net . Writer of gay S & M erotica. Who is Chris Owen? (and Jodi Payne and Alexa Snow et al- see other novelists mentioned on Chris Owen’s site. Who publishes these books?).Why is there no photo of Chris Owen? Look up the novels ‘Adagio” and the bareback novels on amazon which tie in so well with the release of Brokeback Mountain.  Who is Chris Owen? Check out the website. Click on “Links”. Click on “My live Journal”. Who is the amazon reviewer “displaced human”. These are questions. That’s all.
