The long, storied American tradition of denial
Thanks for NOT being in denial Mickey! And your new book sure sounds interesting - have to order it from my favourite bookstore in Melbourne when next I visit ..

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/26 at 06:32 PMHi, from the Future, Mickey.
Those “internment” camps have always made me very angry. Imprisonment is the correct word, methinks. I just don’t know what to do, in my head, with FDR. Generally, I mentally place him somewhere in the viscinity of Truman, in terms of his overall character and thirst for blood. However, that’s not quite it, you know? When the train carrying his body drove through the countryside, enormous numbers of grateful, ordinary people stood quietly along-side the tracks. I’d like to find a good (very Left oriented) biography one day, and dive into it.Posted by joe on from Oregon 07/27 at 05:48 PMWhen I was researching for my first book (on WWII), I found a fair amount of FDR stuff. It should go without saying that he was not the saint we learn about in our history books.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 07/27 at 06:53 PMa couple of sites on japanese imprisonment during world war 2. the first article is entitled The Japanese Peruvian Internment here’s the link: http://www.modelminority.com/article211.html
I found the above link on this site http://www.discovernikkei.org/wiki/Internment. The site has numerous links on japanese imprisonment during world war 2. under the canada section check out Relocation to Redress: The Internment of the Japanese Canadians in particular the clip the fifth column? why does the fdr speech remind me of bush speeches. translations: We’re going to kill japanese” clap! clap! clap! yeah!
bush: “we’re going to kill afghanis and iraqis.” clap! clap! clap! clap! yeah!Posted by tm on from hello earth 07/27 at 10:29 PMHi Mickey -
and Hi TM - and thanks for your input. I’ll check out those links this evening.Yup, without a doubt, FDR was covered in blood from head to foot. And there are certainly unnerving similarities between FDR’s war speeches and Bush’s grandiose claptrap. Who are these guys, that they seem so comfortable with the sacrifice of so very many on their alters of vanity and ambition and class-consciousness? Even that great sage Marcus Aurelius waged war throughout most of his life, though at least he finally saw the folly and horror of it, as he approached the end of his life. What does it mean to be human when human is so capable of almost absolute inhumanity?
G’night, you guyz… -joePosted by joe on from Oregon 07/27 at 11:56 PMGood morning, TM and Joe...thanks for the links and the conversation.
