They keep the "law" in Lord
Meister Eckhart, a 13th century Christian mystic (I think, Catholic - he might have been excommunicated) - said: “I ask God to rid me of God.”
Posted by joe on from grants pass 05/16 at 12:23 PMwhat’t wrong with having the Lord in our law, this country was found on the principles layed forth by Jesus and God
Posted by jared on from west lawn 05/17 at 09:41 AMI am not an Atheist because belief in Atheism requires too much blind faith. I am a temporary Agnostic, waiting until someone convinces me otherwise.
Posted by rosemarie jackowski on from 05/17 at 11:31 AMIf it weren’t sobering it would be funny how these harebrained schools feign as serious centers of enquiry and learning…
Posted by sk on from 05/17 at 11:46 AMAuthoritarian societies need a belief system that relies on revealed truth and Natural Law. Appeals to an authority that can never be questioned are very handy when you’re trying to force people into self-destructive practices. You can find the same sort of thing in the eugenics fantasies of the fashionably libertarian think tank intellectuals who wrote The Bell Curve.
Religion by itself doesn’t turn people into cretins. There are religious people who question and are as morally well-developed as one could reasonably ask. What does produce cretins are social systems where critical thinking is actively discouraged. Neoliberalism, with its market fundamentalists, does that too.
