Vietnam, Iraq, and the M Word
Good morning, Expendables. In MA, we have a confirmed sighting of December weather: 33F and light snow.
On The Daily Show, one of their correspondents mentioned the policy option of a “do-over” in Iraq - “Operation Mulligan.” MZ, I propose a new contest: name the withdrawal operation(s) from Iraq and/or Afghanistan.
Found the August 2006 Esquire at the gym, which had the “breaking” story of torture by the military… not half bad, but wicked late and kinda toothless. Someone needs to amend the definition of whistleblower to include “while leaving inviolate core beliefs about God, country, and corporations.” The cover shot and story was John McCain, who inexplicably is still held to be sane. That’s a mistake. http://tinyurl.com/yf45s3
Captcha sez “feeling”: I’m in a weeks-long funk...the down kind, not George Clinton.
Will advise. Out.Posted by Zenprole on from Urth 12/04 at 07:52 AMGood morning Mickey and Zenprole...you are not alone in your funk. If there are still people on the planet a hundred years from now, they might look back on this time as “The Great Planetary Funk”.
This afternoon I have been asked to do a radio interview, taped, about how the success of the democrats in the election will change things. I warned them that they might not like what I have to say, but they want the interview anyway.
Front page, above the fold in today’s newspaper tells me that the government has plans for me.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/04 at 09:10 AMFYI, an enlightening show on the “Vietnam Era" (about as honest a phrase as the “Holy Roman Empire").
Posted by sk on from 12/04 at 09:48 AMHello Expendables. Like Zenprole, I have a December sighting to report...sans snow.
RMJ: Thanks for the update on your case. Have you tried contacting Ramsey Clark? I feel as if this deserves more press. I just wish I had the connections or rep to make that happen.
Zen: I love your contest idea and since Omar has yet to claim his prize, I may still have that Fisk CD to offer. More soon on this.
SK: Good to have you back and thanks for the link. It seems many would prefer we call it the “Vietnam Error.”
Captcha, right on cue, sez: fear.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/04 at 10:58 AMRMJ, what about double jeopardy? How is the state evading that one? Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised; Assata had to stand trial six times before the state got what it wanted, and then lost by other means.
A major tactic that the left has fumbled is fronted by the Fully Informed Jury Association. They make the overwhelming case that juries are independent entities and may decide issues, cases, and punishment on their own, despite many tactics (from lying to intimidation or worse) designed to make them tools of the court. http://www.fija.org
I dropped out a some years ago because they started to conflate the first and second amendments, a serious error in my view. But their advice on jury-related matters is priceless. I don’t recall reading how an accused can effectively present such ideas in court without being in contempt, or creating a mistrial, but it’s worth another look.
Looking at the map, I see Bennington is near NY. When you said tri-state, I assumed NH/MA/VT, but probably wasn’t paying attention. Drop me a line at
Captcha sez “talk.” In this case, I agree.
Posted by Zenprole on from Urth 12/04 at 11:12 AMThanks for the comment Mickey. Oh how I wish for Ramsey Clark. Funny you should bring him up. One of the “wow” moments during the argument in front of the Supreme Court was when the government said that they did not allow my protest sign to be seen by the jury because they did not know where I had gotten the information on the sign and whether or not it was from a legitimate source. We answered that it had come from Ramsey Clark. (One of the things on my sign was the list of war crimes as compiled by Clark.)
Zenprole...I think double jeopardy is a bit of a myth. OJ can’t be retried but others can be. In my case the Supreme Court did not find me innocent but found the trial judge guilty of an error. This is a crazy day here. The radio is broadcasting the news about the reversal of the conviction. Some have not heard that there are plans for retrial. The legal system has collapsed in the USA. I believe that the civil, not only the criminal side of things, needs major reform. In one of my most recent Motions I state, “Closing the courtroom door to a litigant because he has no money, can be as harmful as closing a cell door on someone convicted unfairly.” In the court system, money rules.Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/04 at 11:28 AMYou’re awesome, RMJ...my thoughts and prayers are with you. I love your quotes from the article…
I’d say that the article seemed to slant in your favor especially when compared to previous articles I read about your case.
It’s amazing that this is still going on...you and your fellow protesters stopped traffic for 15 minutes before being arrested to bring attention against a war that everyone and their mother now knows was and is a crime against humanity. They should be singing your praises...not trying to prosecute you.
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 12/04 at 12:26 PMSpeaking of trials, or in this case, an absence of one and unfair, inhumane treatment:
Posted by JOS on from Chicago 12/04 at 12:33 PMRMJ, I wouldn’t contest what you write about the legal system. I second JOS: this is utter insanity. 15 minutes stopped traffic vs. international war crimes costing hundreds of thousands of lives.
Posted by Zenprole on from Urth 12/04 at 02:46 PMHello again, everyone.
Rosemarie: Let’s update the interview I did with you. I think I can get it posted to some sites that didn’t run it last time. E-mail me when you get a chance.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/04 at 03:58 PMmany surprising quotes in this interview...especially coming from Reagan’s NSA chief:

Posted by JOS on from Chicago 12/04 at 04:42 PMJOS # 11...I agree with much of what he says there. Oil is a red herring. And you are pretty awesome, too.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 12/04 at 06:28 PMThanks, JOS. The opening line of the interview you link to speaks volumes about what passes for analysis these days: “Some would have you believe that only terrorists and San Francisco liberals want the U.S. out of Iraq.”
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/04 at 06:54 PMRMJ, I am sorry you have to go through that again. It seems to me they’re pissed that you took them on. How dare you?
Mickey, can we start a collection to help with her legal fees? It just seems to be the right thing to do.
It seems to me that in all the talk about Iraq we seem to forget about how Afghanistan is headed down the same path.
Does anyone else have anymore insight into Bush’s huge land purchase in Paraguay?
I hope everyone has a pleasent evening.
Posted by David on from Louisville KY 12/04 at 09:56 PMDavid: Good idea, re: collection. I’ll talk to RMJ.
