Wangari Maathai says:
“What’s the connection between the environment and peace?”
I think the reason that it seems weird that a Nobel Peace Prize winner would be an environmentalist is that in the west we have been taught to think that wars are for ideological reasons.
We faught the commies in vietnam because they wanted to imposed their ideology and so on - no, they just wanted independence from occupiers of their land.
Its often implied that ‘Islamic Extremists’ want to force out women into burqas etc - again imposing their ideology, ultimately, on us.
No, they just dont want to have occupiers on their land.
and so on.
Land. control of it or to prevent control by others - so, yeah, peace is an environmental issue.
we in the west use their ‘ideology’ as the excuse to take what we want from them.
of course ‘we’ have no ideology at all - we just want to free people! (free people of their lands and resources, that is)
