We need a caption for Rudy Guiliani, "America's Mayor"
I noted yesterday my experience with racism, that, generally, I haven’t seen it much of it in my life. I noted that I live in Taiwan, where I am the one in the minority, that I often get stares or am talked about.
From those comments, Douglas concluded that “some whites have no understanding that skin colour can be a life or death issue.”
I would simply point out the fallacy there.
That’s like saying that because I’ve never experience poverty that I don’t understand that it’s a life and death issue. It’s, frankly, idiotic, not to mention condescending.
Posted by Jeremy R. Hammond on from Taipei, Taiwan 04/05 at 05:27 AMI put my reply on the racism debate back in the original thread. But you’re right.
Caption:
“America, I’m going to take the Iraq problem in these hands and, like 9-11, spin it into something good ... for me ...ahem.”
Posted by Andy on from Shanghai 04/05 at 06:38 AMHey ... so not to hijack this thread from this point: me, Jeremy, Douglas and whoever else wants to post - lets keep posting the race stuff back in the previous thread.
Also - I have a clear Justin Podur quote on my blog now with the relevant part in bold. Laters all.

Posted by Andy on from Shanghai 04/05 at 06:47 AMWarning, the following caption entry is too nasty for children and adults who have managed to retain their innocence:
“When I am president the American people will feel like they are being screwed by a dildo this big.”
Question is how is this any different than the last 43 presidents?
As for race...I see both sides of the discussion that has been going on here since yesterday or so...by the way, this is a great topic. In my opinion there is no way a white person in the US can fully understand how it feels to be a black person in the US. I grew up in NYC going to a school where I was one of the only white kids, later moved to Singapore, where I was one of the only white kids, ended up hanging out in Harlem at night in my late teens and early twenties where I was the ONLY white person...and yet still, I do not have a full understanding of what it would be like to have black skin in America.
But to say that white people can only talk academically about racism is a blanket statement that I completely disagree with…we all better be able to talk about racism in real life. I have had my life threatened many times for having white skin...in Harlem, Singapore, Jamaica, Puerto Rico…many places. To me, the more important part of racism is that which is routine…the every day fact that because someone is black they won’t get the same education, the same jobs, the same health care…they will most likely grow up in a rough neighborhood…they will be watched when they enter a store…they will be pulled over by the police….they will be shot by the police…will end up in prison…etc., etc. One line from a movie I watched once summed up the situation well, “It ain’t easy being a black man in America. The hunt is on…and you’re the prey!”

Posted by JOS on from Chicago 04/05 at 05:15 PMHello all,
Don’t wanna talk about Guiliani, but I almost fell off of my chair laughing while watching the clip with the kid in it. That was freaking hilarious; I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time!
I’ve already seen the first of the two Blair pictures on Dennis Perrin’s blog Red State Son.
Cheers.
