What does December 7 mean to you?
Hi Mickey,
from the other day: the place I used to hang writing regularly is down for sabbatical, so I found one smaller piece (http://tinyurl.com/p3a64) and one earlier, longer one (http://tinyurl.com/ynpewm). In the meantime, my girlfriend and I are getting an editorial house up and running so I’ll post you a link when once we’ve fixed it up and washed behind its ears.Posted by Owen on from barcelona 12/07 at 09:45 AMMornin’ Mickey and Owen.
In a rush now and I have to think about today’s front page to make a meaningful comment, but I doubt that anyone can top yours.
“...To call me pessimistic would be optimistic...”Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 12/07 at 11:01 AMDec 7....only 18 shopping days left.
Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 12/07 at 11:21 AMWe’ll all feel embarrassed, I’m sure, for forgeting it is Girolamo Trombeti’s birthday on Dec. 7
Posted by joe of maine on from 12/07 at 01:01 PMHello Expendables. It’s hot and humid in Dubya Land.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Dubya Land 12/07 at 06:07 PMevening Owen, RMJ, Tommy and Joe. Hey Mick, great line from ‘tiny things’:
To call me pessimistic would be optimistic.

Mickey, yesterday you referred to Dec 7 1941; the events of the day and the events leading up to it.
Well, on Dec 8 1941, we heard words that forever established America as victim and paved the way for 60+ years of hubris and domination disguised in a victim/retaliation context.
“Yesterday, Dec 7, 1941- a date which will live in infamy...”
And war was declared. We know the rest.Perhaps the US has made progress. The war in Afghanistan began an eternal 26 days after 9/11.
Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 12/08 at 09:03 AMAnd the war against americans, declared by the wealthy, the greedy, the selfish, the barbaric started 500 years ago, never once has this war stopped…
Posted by joe of maine on from 12/08 at 10:09 AMDead on, Joe.
Tommy: Interestingly, the US declared war on Japan right after Pearl Harbor but didn’t declare war on Nazi Germany until after Hitler declared war first. Then America fought the war against fascist racism with a segregated army, setting up internment camps, and dropping nuclear weapons on civilians. Ah yes, we’re just keeping the world safe for democracy.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Dubya Land 12/08 at 10:22 AMI always enjoy heart warming war stories such as Shell Oil’s contribution to the war by sellng oil to the Germans, the americans and to Japan. Now that’s a fair way to insure maximum profits. And was it TRW who insured all militaries had the same bearings in the aircraft?
Posted by joe of maine on from 12/08 at 03:02 PMHi Owen, Tommy, JOS, Mickey, joe, and all…
Off topic...last night I saw the movie about Hurricane Carter. I learned some things I did not know. For one, he spent part of his youth in a reform school in Jamesburg, NJ. I visited that school often then, because my first teaching job was in the other school in Jamesburg. Small world. It was a good movie about the legal system - almost made me cry.
Rutland Herald reporter got my quote right. “...It’s too bad that Congress subcontracted its Constitutional right to declare war to the executive branch...”
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 12/08 at 04:27 PMHey RMJ,
do you know have any info about John Nirenberg...Brattleboro native...walking from Boston to DC....to eventually confront Pelosi about the failure to introduce impeachment.
I believe he left last Sunday and I think is crossing into CT now.
Supposedly walking RT 1.Posted by Tommy on from I live by the River 12/08 at 04:39 PMTommy, there have been a few articles in the papers. Here’s a link to one article written by a reporter I know.
http://tinyurl.com/2lv4z9Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 12/08 at 04:56 PMGood morning everyone.......December 7 is past, the perpetual war continues.
I looked at the Bay this morning, the calm water framed by white and trees...heather-pink-blue above the tree line, calming and beautiful. I wanted to stop and stare to contemplate. I had to go to wark. Little time from the madness, the irrational, the lack of direct thought connected to the whole of life…
Posted by joe of maine on from 12/09 at 10:51 AMhello everyone
i recently received a letter from all of our best friends about what tiny choice they would like us to make this year…
Posted by michael on from scotland (but in exile again) 12/09 at 12:29 PMHey gang hope everyone is doing well. I have been busy with family and self-healing. 2 down 4 to go on the chemo-trail. UGH! Been investigating water intention experiments and pondering quantum mechanics. Healing touch, laughter, shiatsu and massage. Especially the smiles and laughter...and tiny choices...cellular choices… an excellent reminder of how valuable each thought/action/intention is. Good one.
Over at blond sense I found this 7 minute hillarious(?) newz presentation.
fukin newz:

hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
PeacePosted by Frances on from snowy coast of bc 12/09 at 01:59 PMMaybe enjoy wasnt the right word to describe my reaction to that bit of newz...it did provide a couple of good laughs and was a refreshing change from the corporate bs I usually hear.
I am contemplating dragging my little potted birch tree in for service as a christmas focal point, but I am finding myself to be extremely reluctant this season. I havent begun to shop and dont really want to (never have), if it wasnt for the kids I wouldnt bother at all. This year I couldnt care less about playing santa. Not depressed or anything just cant dredge up even a shred of interest....or the energy to pretend to be interested.....will the kids survive? or resent me forever because I dont “do” christmas just this once? hhhmmmm guess I will find out heh.
cheersPosted by Frances on from bc 12/09 at 08:21 PMHi Frances. Great to “see” you. I just got back from Texas, helping my parents. I can sure relate to the chemo trip.
Quik anecdote: My Mom and I watched Casablanca for the zillionth time last night. That movie never fails to choke me up. My Mom, however, has been through Hell and when it came to the big ending, she said: “These days, they’d just napalm everyone. All this talking wouldn’t matter.”
Captcha sez: love
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 12/09 at 08:51 PMHi Mickey. Casablanca is one of my favorite classic films. visually stunning, I love all the shadow-art and background scenery.
Chemo is horrible. I am having to take ativan for the first time ever in my life just so I can sit in the chemo chair. The actual drug delivery isnt so bad its knowing that the next 6 or 7 days will be hella nausia and who knows what other health problem will decide to rear its ugly head...Sure hope your mom is doing ok with it all.I absolutely love my kids, their teenage years not so much. Heres what my current desktop looks like:
http://tinyurl.com/2fvb5dI feel like printing off a couple of copies and posting them around the neighborhood…
maybe they will get the hint and smarten up.Posted by Frances on from bc 12/09 at 09:13 PM
