"Where’s Liz been?”
Happy Birthday Michele’s dad. Its my sister’s 30th today too, we’re off for a Greasy Spoon lunch and an afternoon in the pub with friends.
Posted by Mew on from sister's Mac 05/20 at 07:05 AMHappy B’day, Mew’s sister. Enjoy your day…
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/20 at 07:09 AMI feel left out...my mother’s birthday’s the 30th (would’ve been her 86th), and an old lover’s was the 20th (would’ve been his 45th) and my daughter’s is the 28th (will be her 25th). I can’t figure this out. Ausgust (when these folks were conceived) is hot and nasty, so why were...oh.
Another day of 90-plus hell today. Summer’s here. Rapture, joy.
Off to the pizza mines. Ciao, y’all.
Posted by Mudge on from Austin 05/20 at 08:42 AM#### them and there shock value art.they want to sue always looking for away to get there hands on the money like most upper class college kids.cry babies sex money art.now little boys and girls get on your knees and pucker up for the art world and make sure you swallow for your dealer.
Posted by mike conner on from rockland 05/20 at 09:37 AMHey Mudge..hope you find some “pizza mine” today.
Mike: I think I understand your point but regardless of who makes the art, censorship is dangerous.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/20 at 09:48 AMBirthday greetings to MAX !
Right now much of Vermont is without e-mail. Our ISP is having tech problems. Technology is so fickle. The problem must have started sometime during the night. Don’t know when they will solve the problem.
Mudge...I finally found a good pizza place in Vermont. Unfortunately it is on the other side of the mountain, clear across the state. I’m getting hungry.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 05/20 at 10:09 AMHello RMJ. Did all that New England rain hit you last week?
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/20 at 10:11 AMMickey, it is still raining and rain is predicted for a few more days. That will make it about 3 weeks of heavy rain...some snow is predicted for the mountains. I hate the weather here but when the sun does come out it is such a welcome site that everyone rushes into the streets for a big party.
Posted by RMJ on from Churchill 4 Prez Hdqts 05/20 at 10:47 AMhappy birthday.
if i make 70 i will be very surprised. i don’t look after myslef at all
Posted by michael on from exile 05/20 at 11:10 AMpublic relations when shes not doing art how nice."this case will protect civil rights of artist, sutdents and citizens across the county” take it to the highest court in the land you go girl. its nice to see a p.r. person inject a little self serving fear."who knows what civil rights may be in jeopordy next” . take this case to a small cliams court for the damage and be thankful for the publicity.send donations to the artists for civil rights now help them protect us!i love when i get censored 5 times now i then know iam doing my job to piss off the powers that be.
Posted by mike conner on from rockland 05/20 at 11:35 AMHello again, everyone. Nice sunny day to celebrate a b’day here today. Thanks for sending good wishes to Max.
Mike: You know I dig your work and your style but I must admit I’m not sure what you mean in comment #10.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 05/20 at 07:20 PMRMJ: Vermont without email must feel like 1993. Sweet.
That woman’s art doesn’t look very interesting but censorship is always always always a bad idea and must be rigorously opposed. The artists should certainly take legal action if their work was damaged. On art in general I posted a lengthy quote by Monsieur Camus at my blog the other day. An excerpt:
“[T]he aritst, if he must share the misfortune of his time, must also tear himself away in order to consider that misfortune and give it form. This continual shuttling, this tension that gradually becomes increasingly dangerous, is the task of the artist of today.”
I suppose some artists enjoy that “increasingly dangerous tension” more than creating significant forms or dealing with the important matters of their time. So you get people teasing “the authorities” for any kind of attention. But in the case Mickey’s linked to, there doesn’t seem to have been any intention to shock or scandalize anybody.
