Wink, wink, nudge, nudge...
Hi there Mickey and all others…
It seems to me that there was a Gimbles in Philadelphia. I was about 5 years old when we moved there so my Dad could avoid the military and work in a Defense Plant instead. WW2 was in progress. At Christmastime my mother would take us to the city to see the decorations in Gimbles. My mother worked in the city and every day during the summer I would walk her to the bus stop. One day a little boy who was playing in the dirt saw us approaching and he threw a handful of dirt on my mother’s pretty dress. I still remember how shocked I felt to see another human being do something unkind. I was only 5. I am no longer shocked at anything now.Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/11 at 04:48 PMThat’s what she said...
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/11 at 04:49 PMRMJ...1...that’s a delightful story, unfortunately with a sad ending. I don’t mind certain sad endings because they’re true. Sad personal stories can also enable the ‘rescuer’ part of me, I, becoming very vulnerable. How can someone who needs help. rescue someone else?...well, I’ve tried anyway. The whole thing becomes a lose, lose experience initially, but then becoming material for want of understanding.
Mickey...what does entendre mean? Can you imagine, I’m still trying to find the secrets to the mysteries of the universe, and you throw out a word like that...say good night Gracie...(<;

Posted by joe maine on from 10/11 at 06:35 PMUhh… for those of us in the construction biz, the “TWSS” bit is considered “conversation”. It’s charming to see how you soft-skinned dainty-handed types seem to find it novel. Usually, us grunts are being told how backwards and brute we’re acting. I bet, if you saw ME, you’d stick your nose so high in the air you’d smell God’s bung. And you’d cough, or maybe sniff, or snuffle or chortle at my simple everyman-ness.
And I’d say, “that’s what she said. Then I married her.”
Posted by Al on from New Joisey 10/11 at 07:26 PMAl, participants here are generally known as The Expendables. The ability to look down on someone isn’t in our DNA (except right wing trolls that give themselves away via bad grammar and spelling, and paranoiac ideas).
Please tell us all about the last time that ‘look away’ stunt happened to you.
I’ll get the ball rolling with a bit about a trip to NYC in ‘97 for a media teach-in. I, then working in a group home, took the train down with a retired schoolteacher. Waiting for the subway we got to talking with a guy dressed in workman’s clothes who had a southern accent. It turns out he was from Tennessee, desperate for work (elevator installation/maintenance), and was offered a gig in NYC, only to find out it was a site being union-busted. He was disgusted by the deception, but was already out a bunch of cash used to make his way north.
The teach-in was OK, though there were a few pseudo-leftie hacks that have since turned corporate - one was part of the attempted hijacking of Pacifica, the other makes his way as a money- and mailing-list grubbing, up-market magazine honcho. (Wait, that sounds wishy-washy)

travel guides tell you should sit near the back of the bus because you are not inconvenienced by people getting on and off. that is maybe fine in europe but not in asia where they shoehorn as many people onto the bus as possible.
i had two women asleep on my lap for 3 hours (not as good as it sounds - they were very old) on a bus journey and it was about 40 degrees and hardly any air on the bus etc
eventually i decided at the next stop to sit on the top of the bus with some of the nepali dudes.
it was much better, much more comfortable, could see more, breath more, talk more - and it wasn’t so bloody hot.
so anyway, i get chatting to some guy who was very nice and ten minutes later he grabs me and pushes my head down. i try to jump back up and manage to after a second when he lets me go.
i was just about to punch him when he put his hands up and pointed to the telegraph wire that may have taken my head off if he hadn’t done it.
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/12 at 09:05 AMHi Michael 10..."i had two women asleep on my lap for 3 hours (not as good as it sounds - they were very old) on a bus journey and it was about 40 degrees and hardly any air on the bus etc”
That sounds wonderful to me no matter, thanks for the kindness.
Posted by joe maine on from 10/12 at 09:23 AMthe kindness?
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/12 at 09:32 AMand i also meant not as good as it sounds because i am a nice chap and didnt want to wake them up and so had further restricted movement to add to the list of things to deal with
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/12 at 09:33 AMGood morning all...in a rush now, but - joe # 11, what’s so bad about “old”. “Old” is just one more group that faces discrimination in this screwed up culture. Old, young, black, poor, Jewish, Catholic, Atheistic, Socialistic.... Not everyone is young, beautiful, and rich. joe, you will be welcome to sit on MY lap even when you are old.

Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/12 at 09:45 AMAplogies...I really am in a rush and misread the comments. Mine should have been directed to michael #10. Sorry.
Posted by RMJ on from Mickey Z 4 Prez Hdqts 10/12 at 09:47 AMsorry, but it is also ok for me, as a man of just over 30, to make a small joke about not wanting to be sexually intimate with two 80ish year old females??
there is nothing wrong with being old
i didnt try to offend anyone and i am sorry if i did.
i may start to joke about the ‘over-sensitive’ groups in society next.
ooops, i just did!
seriously, kidding, no offence meant, you should all know me by now
Posted by michael on from scotland 10/12 at 09:54 AMRelax, Michael...we’re just funning with you.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from Astoria 10/12 at 10:00 AMThe act of kindness I referred to...simply offering your lap for someone to sleep on.
I wasn’t implying anything about age. I agree, the elderly should have more consideration.
