You've Got Z-mail
Congratulations on your two new books, Mickey. Here’s hoping one of your book tours makes a stop in the D.C. area.

Paul WhalenPosted by Paul Whalen on from Fort Lauderdale,Fl 05/29 at 02:38 PMIn your counterpunch article about D-Day, I think you hit the myth of glorious yet genocidal wars right on its ugly head. Of course, ending any article with a quote from the most down to earth genius of our time (Bob Marley) is always a plus. Never mind ‘extreme poverty’, your philosophy is greatly rich. Keep spreading the word and you certainly will pass through the eye of the needle and into Zion. btw, when I myself am elevated out of my ‘extreme poverty’, I pledge to buy at least one of your books. Till then, keep the faith.
Posted by Soweto Blues on from 05/29 at 02:43 PMI stumbled across your “D(isinformation) Day: 60 Years is Enough” right after the WWII memorial dedication. Wow. I have more than enough reading on my plate, but now I might have to add your writing too. My compliments, and thanks.
Posted by Frank on from South Carolina 05/29 at 03:34 PMI read your article posted at Rense.com. Do your books contain footnotes to document your assertions?
Posted by Patty on from 05/29 at 10:29 PMYes, Patty. Two of the books are fully annotated.
Posted by Mickey Z. on from 05/29 at 10:42 PMNot a comment. Do you want to understand why human history is ever the same since the proverbial Cain killed his brother? The research of Paul MacLean, M.D., retd Chief, Laboratory of Brain Evolution and Behavior provides a major clue. I’ll ge glad to give you references.

Posted by John H. Brand on from austin, TX 05/30 at 02:24 PMUnfortunately, Mickey, the Americans and British supplied the Russians too. Were it not for that, the Nazis would’ve defeated them
Posted by Adolf Hitler on from South America, somewhere 05/30 at 03:28 PMMickey, we here in the anti-American state of Iran like your writing so much, that we published one of your hate pieces in the Tehran Times. Keep up the good work. DEATH TO THE GREAT SATAN!
Posted by President Khatami on from Tehran, Iran 05/30 at 04:04 PMBet you’re sorry the communist army didn’t keep coming west so you could be living in a communist state now.
Posted by God Bless America on from 05/30 at 04:20 PMMickey you are exactly correctabout the soviets and Nazis. The Russian are the only people who have not once but twice liberated their erstwhile liberators. Once with Uncle Adolf and then prior to that with first Citizen Napolean.
Uncle Adolf went to liberate Russia but the Russians united behind comrade Stalin and ended up liberating Germany.
The Allies who had trouble handling the few German divisions which held them up in Italy and another bunch which almost floored them in the battle of the Bulge. They needed 5 to 10 tanks to take one German Tiger let alone go after a King Tiger. Whereas the Russians T-43 and JS2 and JS-3’s were best of the breed.
During the battle of the Bulge Churchill sent an emergency message to Stalin to start an offensive to relieve german pressure. When Churchill saw the extent of Soviet power he vaporized Dresden killing off 100K+ innocent civillians just to give Uncle Stalin some pause.
The Americans were similarly alarmed at the extent of Soviet ground power and they vaporized Hiroshima and Nagasaki killing off a couple of Hundred thousand civillians just to impress the Soviets.
The first lesson in understanding history is to drop the veil of innocence.

Posted by Reed Thomas on from Washington state 05/30 at 05:13 PMWinning WWII in Europe was a joint effort (as opposed to the Asian theater, where it was solely us). If we had not engaged the Germans from the West, then Russians would have merely stopped the German’s Eastern expansion, and they would have never been able to defeat the Germans without the Western offensive, as you so erroneously imply.
And your talking points are sophomoric tripe - (1) WWII was not a war against racism. Are you seriously trying to equate American segregation with German genocide (Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals) and Japanese xenophobia? (2) WWII was not a war fought to end atrocities, and atrocities have occurred in virtually every war in the history of man. And your complaints about American atrocities wouldn’t be so laughable if the Germans and Japanese not only hadn’t engaged in all of your complaints about Americans, but stepped it up several levels (concentration camps by Germans and beheadings and starvation by the Japanese). There is no American equivalent of the Bataan Death March. (3) The internment, while regrettable, was an overreaction to the fear that the thousands of Japanese immigrants could be working as double agents. The shock of 9/11 had nothing on the fear that was caused by Pearl Harbor. (4) So what if American businesses were doing business with the enemy? Were they purposefully working assisting in Germany’s attempt to take over Europe? To engage in genocide? Of course not. Your complaints are just silly, here. If you feel this strongly, then you should be leading the charge for the Kennedy family to turn over all of their assets, as Joe Kennedy’s fortune was founded upon his business with the Germans. And the German economy turnaround was truly miraculous - the Deutschmark had been virtually worthless just a few years before, and their Depression made ours look like a picnic. (5) Totally agree that it was monstrous to turn away the Jewish refugees. The Nazi war criminals we had come in were to help with our new fight against the Russians. Not a tradeoff one wants to make often, but it is not too arguable that Stalin far outdid the atrocities of Hitler.
We got involved in WWII as retaliation against the Japanese who attacked us and to stop the Germans from taking over England. Your complaints seem to be greatly lacking in historical perspective, and, quite frankly, bitter Anti-Americanism. Perhaps you should remember that in this so-called terrible country you can put out your books without fear of being thrown into prison, or worse, unlike what would have happened in Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.
Posted by GreatOne on from United States 05/30 at 06:25 PMI think you are a little hard on Amercian Business for dealing with Hitler for at that time he was looked upon as a racist ( but weren’t we all) and a buffoon but also a miracle worker. WW2, Hitler and Chuchill’s war, was just an extension of WW1 and all its stupidity and barbarism and most Yanks knew that no one was to blame for the WW1 part two.
You are also very gullible about Amercan turning away Jews. Although the St.Louis, a ship filled with Jews was turned away, millions of Jews had been coming to America illegally and legally since Hilter’s Laws came into effect in 1932 and they changed the face of Amercia and Europe for ever. The secret millions of Jews opting for Amercia was tragic for Europe,a boom for Amercia.Posted by Barrington on from Ott 05/30 at 08:02 PMMy great uncle was a Pathfinder (DSO, DFC) during the war and dropped the flares which marked Dresden for destruction. He was of the opinion that there was very little difference between the behavior of the Nazis and our tribes. He loathed anyone that sentimentalized about World War 2 or tried to infer inherent superiority in our cultures and peoples. He would very much have appreciated Mickey Z’s efforts to snap people out of their casual acceptance of atrocities performed in our names, especially in these ghastly times.
Keep up the good work, Mickey Z.Posted by Ed Rush on from Thailand 05/30 at 11:18 PM“Do you know what a soldier is, young man? He’s the chap who makes it possible for civilized folk to despise war.” ......
Glad to see you are enjoying the liberties others purchased for you. May I suggest you travel a little. I mean outside the US. See what the real world is like - not the fantasy one in which you live - and you might gain a whole new appreciation for this horrid country of ours.Posted by Rick on from 05/31 at 11:38 AMExcellent article on the greatest generation. I’ve been alarmed at Borders Bookstore’s news magazine layout. These days the the current events/news section is mixed up to nearly a third with historical journals and special editions covering WWII, Viet Nam, etc. (i.e. nostalgic militarism). It makes me sick and scared for my country. Who’s behind this nuttiness?
Posted by Chris Meyer on from Altoona, WI USA 05/31 at 01:51 PMWW II was the fight between those who wanted to control our bodies and minds and those who just wanted to control our minds. Guess who won?
P.S. Another question:Where did the Nazis flee to after the war?Posted by Bill on from SPAIN 06/01 at 03:32 AMHooray! A Mickey Z weblog!
Speak, Dude!
There is one thing I have learned over the years: as desperately alone as I feel in this cold, cold (spiritually, that is) world, I am never really alone.
I feel like I must surely be your only huge fan who just happens to be a purely rural conservative christian (arguably well educated at Oregon State—go Beavers—and oh so well raised!) liberal lily white middle class Mr. Average American. I’m almost ashamed to admit it!
Almost.
But I believe that in the end, love rules, man. And truth always triumphs over lies. It might take a year or two… or a thousand. But I believe the Bible, man, and you, when you speak the truth (as you have in all that I’ve read so far), are just telling another side of that same story.
Keep speaking. Be strong. Be true.
Peace
Posted by Mark Demory on from 06/01 at 05:02 PMMany of the statements made in your D-Day article are true and others are up for debate. As you aptly point out, the clarity of hindsight, 60 years worth, which allows us to view these events as an omnipotent observer tends to make the whole thing look foolish, “How could they have not seen that coming!” You could probably find a conspiracy to motivate wars by those who stand to gain from them throughout human history. Now with the knowledge of who was signing Hitler’s and Stalin’s paychecks the players of WWII become far more obvious. Soldiers usually tend to commit atrocities for two distinct reasons, either blind anger and revenge or as acts of desperation if defeat seems near. The fire bombing of Dresden was in retaliation for the machine gunning of defenseless allied POWs. However, the actions of the Germans and Japanese during the early part of the war seem guided by an awesome sense of arrogance. The crimes committed by Japanese soldiers during the overrun and occupation of the Chinese city of Nan king are some of the worst ever recorded, head chopping contests were common and reported in Japanese newspapers.
I don’t believe anyone has ever questioned the courage or conviction of Soviet Soldiers fighting on the eastern front. Of course they were fighting 80% of the German army simply because that was the only true front of the war until D-Day. It is also why the Germans nearly overran Moscow, they were turned back by the Red Army with the support of a brutal Russian Winter. Stalin nagged like an old woman for years for the allies to open a second front to take pressure off the Red Army. The Soviets were no where near Berlin at that point but the gains they made after June 6, 1944 were astounding. These gains were due almost solely to the efforts of the allies opening the western front. If you ask any Soviet soldier fighting that war I’m sure he would say the Normandy invasion was greatly appreciated.
I was not present at the D-Day landings and therefore cannot testify as to the courage and spirit of American soldiers or how much of a “walk in the park” the Normandy invasion was. However, I have witnessed an 85 year old man weeping uncontrollably while telling how the man who had just saved him from drowning by pulling him up onto Omaha beach suddenly fell on top of him missing a head and an arm. I simply know I wouldn’t have wanted to be there and whether or not the war these men helped to end was good and just or not, they are to be revered and respected.
Posted by Jon H. on from South Cal 06/06 at 05:06 PMThese guys talking about “Anti-American” are just too
painfully immature in their understanding…
Nobody is questioning the dedication, the goodness
of the soldier thrust into Hell. The commentators
here who still try to justify America the Righteous
are the ones who really need some History (Real History) lessons. You must look back to the creation
of the Income Tax in the USA, who made it happen, and who has benefitted by it. Before that, the proud Spanish-American ("A Splendid Little...") War. Then
extrapolate, and fill in the gaps...WW I made a hell of a lot of money for certain elite controllers.
The Spanish so-called Civil War provided arms dealers the same kind of opportunity for experimentation and profit which can be
clearly seen in these Arabian, Afghani, and soon to be unleashed American “wars”.Tom Brokaw, Spielberg,
and all the rest of these propagandists know that they are offering tribute to the disappearing generation which was fortunate to have been taught real American “Civics” in school, the last group who assumed that our Constitution would really be protected, honored, cherished, and defended- not stomped shredded, twisted and shat upon by today’s horrible claimants to the title of “Conservative”. Thanks Mickey Z....I came here from the posting on Rense.com, and I will be back, and maybe buy a book from you...thanks for the conscientious work.
Anybody calling you “UnAmerican” probably is clinging to a so-called “Defense” industry paycheck, oblivious to the imminent Slave status of their children in the Good ol’ USA.Posted by Wanting Truth on from New Mexico 06/17 at 10:53 AM
