What exactly would change if Cheney (or Bush) were impeached?
Following the well-worn script, a two-term administration is taking hits, dealing with scandals, and facing public vilification. In fact, two alleged progressives—George McGovern and Dennis Kucinich—have recently made high profile calls for impeachment.
“It is my firm belief that the Cheney-Bush team has committed offenses that are worse than those that drove Nixon, Vice President Spiro Agnew and Atty. Gen. John Mitchell from office after 1972,” said McGovern. “I expect to see Cheney and Bush forced to resign their offices before 2008 is over.”
Question #1: What resulted from Nixon’s resignation?
My answer: As usual, the leader in question didn’t have to deal with his/her “real” crimes and the Watergate scandal only served to create the illusion of an adversarial media.
Question #2: What might result from a Bush or Cheney resignation?
My answer: It would merely serve to further promote the illusion of an adversarial Democratic party.
What do you think?
