Diversity of Tactics...and Perspectives
The Occupy movement is less than 10 months old but has already endured enough misguided analysis—and tortured self-analysis—to last 10 years.
One “debate” that never seems to end centers around the vague concept of “diversity of tactics"—a discussion which fast devolves into a purity pissing match between those who claim to be pacifists and those who claim undying devotion to direct action.
To really, really paraphrase Thelonious Monk ("Talking about music is like dancing about architecture"): Debating violence in today’s culture is like debating wetness while you ride the Titanic to the bottom of the ocean.
