Eye of the beholder
I see another Storytelling Saturday is upon us
Once upon a time...
On Wednesday mornings, I train back-to-back-to-back kickboxing clients in Manhattan so early that I’m back in Queens by 9:30 a.m. Each time the #7 train drops me at Queensboro Plaza where I switch for the N or W, I gaze at the “luxury condos” being built in my old neighborhood. The “Queen Plaza” building will be, in fact, a mere 3-4 blocks from where I misspent much of my youth.
This past Wednesday, however, I didn’t stare too long at the pricey apartments because sharing the elevated outdoor subway platform with me was a rat big enough to be mistaken for a goddamned Chihuahua.
You can turn an old factory into an overpriced yuppie file cabinet...but to a rat, that part of Astoria will always be good old Long Island City.
The End?
