Lost and found?
On the plane last week—flying down to see my Dad—I read Necessary Losses by Judith Viorst (recommended by a good friend of mine who lost his mother last year). It had me contemplating my many losses—obvious and not-so-obvious. Not just my Mom, mind you, but so much more.
Here are a few of the losses I’ve been mourning: my Dad as I once knew him, my grandparents and other relatives, and so many beloved animals. Less tangible but also cause for mourning: my youth; my faith (god, religion, etc.); my belief in America, justice, and all that jazz; many of my freedoms; my ability to fully trust; some of my spontaneity, my optimism, and of course, my hope.
What have you lost?
