Meanwhile...back in north Korea

Victor Cha, a Korean-American academic at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, has been appointed Asia director in Dubya’s National Security Council. As a result, Cha will be in position to shape Washington’s policies, re: the Korean Peninsula.

My friend and colleague, Greg Elich, had this to say about Cha on November 20, 2004:

“I am familiar with Cha and his views. He is an extreme hawk on North Korea. This appointment is a clear indication that the Bush Administration intends to take serious action against the DPRK during its second term, ranging from an economic blockade all the way up to airstrikes, which would certainly lead to full-scale war. I believe the Bush Administration will continue to go through the motions diplomatically, but only in order to ‘prove’ that approach doesn’t work and that hostile actions are necessary (never mind the fact that the Bush Administration has yet to try diplomacy).”
