Reminder: This is "normal" for our culture
For anyone paying attention with even a remotely open mind, the Israeli assault on Lebanon is not an aberration. It is not the result of having the “wrong” party in power. It is not a mere “overreaction.”
This type of abomination is business as usual for the dominant culture. It is what passes for normal for our pathetic species.
***We interrupt this post for a silly question for the corporate media: Why is so much made of Iran allegedly “using Hezbollah as a proxy” but nothing said about the massive, overt U.S. funding of the Israeli war machine?***
We now return to our regularly scheduled rant:
Here’s something I wrote after the Haditha massacre (anyone remember that?): The repugnant recent events throughout Iraq, of course, must be investigated and the guilty parties brought to justice. But the greater work lies in examining a culture so blind to its violent nature.
Thus, of course, if there’s any way possible for us to help end these most recent atrocities in Lebanon, we must take immediate and dedicated action...but remember: such action will do little or nothing to change the overall societal mindset. What about the inevitable next wave of invasions, bombings, etc. by nations, governments, and militias on all sides?
We’re scrambling around, trying (in vain) to put out fires while the arsonists remain essentially unchallenged...perhaps even unnoticed.
