Spinwatch reviews "The Seven Deadly Spins"/Spinning our two-party (sic) system
Excerpt:
“Too often wars, events or spins are reported as single issues. What Mickey Z is saying (correctly) is that the same spins are consistently used but given an update or changed to suit wherever the fighting is taking place. He has written this book to illustrate that governments have been crying wolf for years and yet most of us still fall for it.”

For more on the topic of spin, witness our two-party (sic) system in action:
While debating (sic) the issues of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, we were offered a glimpse at what passes for democracy these days. Bad Cop #1 was William Barr, a former US Attorney General, who said: “The Geneva Convention applies to signatory powers. Al-Qaeda hasn’t signed it. They’re not covered by the Geneva Convention.” Bad Cop #2 was Alabama Republican Senator Jeff Sessions, who argued that some of the prisoners “need to be executed.”
But fear not...Democrat Patrick Leahy of Vermont rushed in play good cop:
“Let’s get real,” he said. “These people have been locked up for three years-- no end in sight and no process to lead us out of there. Guantanamo Bay is causing immeasurable damage to our reputation as a defender of Democracy and a beacon of human rights around the world. I’m proud of what our nation has accomplished. I want us to be that beacon of human rights. But we’re not being it with Guantanamo.”
Ah, there’s the vaunted freedom of choice our brave men and women are fighting to protect: Either charge them with something or kill ‘em...but please let us get back to being a beacon of human rights around the world.
