There is No Good War: The Myths of WWII
My first book, “Saving Private Power: The Hidden History of the Good War” (Soft Skull, 2000), will soon be re-released in paperback by Vox Pop (http://voxpopnet.net).
This version includes some minor revisions, an introduction by Michael Parenti, a new cover, and a new title:
“There is No Good War: The Myths of World War II”
Here’s some of what was said about the original:
“A powerful argument, well-buttressed by fact and written with verve and clarity...iconoclastic and bold ...”
--Howard Zinn
“Acerbic wit and dogged interrogation of accepted wisdom...matches Chomsky in breadth of source material and in the scalding heat of his moral outrage...”
--New Internationalist
“I don’t know what’s better: What Mickey Z has to say, or how he says it.”
—Stephen Gowans
“An important contribution.”
—Workers World
“We might have more challenging political debates and awareness of the long-standing calculation of the powers that move our government if a copy of Saving Private Power were to accompany each copy of Tom Brokaw’s The Greatest Generation.”
—Beth Gould, Satya Magazine
“Cantankerous and salty...In a better world, [this] book would be standard reading in collegiate history courses on World War II.”
—Bullymag.com
“In the tradition of Zinn and Galeano...”
--David Barsamian, Alternative Radio
“At last, a highly readable book and useful classroom source that doesn’t flinch from dissecting the sanctified myths that envelop America’s Disneyfied fantasies about World War II.”
—Paul Atwood, American Studies Program, and the William Joiner Center for the Study of War and Social Consequences, University of Massachusetts-Boston.
