Funny what gets their attention

The butcher stands in front of his shop in a blood stained frock.
Nobody flinches.
Sheep hang from hooks behind him…their lifeless eyes on his back.
Nobody flinches.

Lobsters piled atop one another…claws taped in the fish store window.
Nobody flinches.

Fish carcasses in wet boxes in front of the store…streets smell like death.
Nobody flinches.

A poet points all this out and refuses to participate. The flinching begins.

(Speaking of “refusing to participate,” click here and scroll down a bit for a picture of me in my new vegan shirt...sharing space with Cesar Chavez, no less: http://tinyurl.com/7ogu6)

Movie recommendation:

Syriana

Suggestion: Vote with your dollar and let Hollywood know you want to see more films that question the status quo...e.g. Good Night and Good Luck, Jarhead, Lord of War, and yes, Syriana.

Paulo Coelho sez: “There is suffering in life, and there are defeats. No one can avoid them. But it’s better to lose some of the battles in the struggles for your dreams than to be defeated without ever knowing what you’re fighting for.”

Urban Forest

Speaking of trees, I took this photo within the boundaries of New York City:

It’s Michele at Forest Park in Queens. No cars, no roads, no buildings, no telephone poles…no signs of urban life. All of this just minutes away.

“Getting fired,” Tyler says, “is the best thing that could happen to any of us. That way, we’d quit treading water and do something with our lives.”

Who knows the first rule about fight club?
