How mad was the last cow you ate?

“There’s a 9,000% increase in the domestic diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease since 1979. That year, according to the Centers for Disease Control, 653 people died of Alzheimer’s disease in the United States. Twenty-three years later, in 2002, 58,785 people died of Alzheimer’s. It’s an increase that cannot be explained simply by an aging population and advanced diagnosis techniques. I’m not suggesting that there is a connection between Alzheimer’s and BSE, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, but it is absolutely mind-boggling that more people have not considered the potential connection between tainted meat and brain-wasting disease. Current research simply does not support the statement that eating beef is 100% safe.”

“Currently, about 4.5 million people in the US have Alzheimer’s disease and will die from it...In conversations with several Alzheimer’s groups in the US, I learned that since reporting of Alzheimer’s is not mandatory, there is a large uncertainty factor in determining the actual number of cases, so the true figures for Alzheimer’s, as with CJD, Creurtzfeldt-Jakob Disease, are essentially unknown...It becomes even more urgent to conduct autopsies to make sure Alzheimer’s patients are not actually dying of CJD.”

I believe the single most powerful individual act you can commit in the name of helping the planet is switching to a vegan lifestyle.

Here’s an interview with my fellow vegan, Woody Harrelson:
