I know it's not April 15 yet, but...
As I did our taxes this past weekend, I could hear George crooning in my ear:
Let me tell you how it will be/There’s one for you, nineteen for me
Should five percent appear too small/Be thankful I don’t take it all
If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat
If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet
Cause I’m the tax man/Yeah, I’m the tax man
And you’re working for no one but me
Henry David Thoreau sez: “If a thousand...were not to pay their tax bills this year, that would not be as violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them and enable the state to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution.”
Of course, there are those who choose the option of war tax resistance.
