"I’m Paris Hilton and I can do whatever I want"
I read where Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Lindsey Lohan wear matching t-shirts that read: “I’m Paris Hilton and I can do whatever I want.” Well, guess what? Within the framework of our current culture, Paris Hilton can do whatever she wants.
Born wealthy, attractive, and seemingly devoid of any social awareness, Ms. Hilton’s feet never touch the ground. She moves from her mansion to the limo to the party to the limo to the hotel to the limo and back to her mansion. She can do whatever she wants. Who can stop her? If I stepped in front of her before she could enter her limo and begged her to use her notoriety to advance a social cause, I’d be pounced on by bodyguards and likely arrested. I might even up in one of America’s brutal prisons.
(Chalk that up as reason #79,333 why we stand virtually no chance of ever turning this mess around.)
Besides, what possible motivation would Paris Hilton have to do more than flash her thong? I can think of only one: She’s human. Remember the film, Harold and Maude? After a fun night in an amusement park, Harold tells Maude: “You sure have a way with people.”
To which Maude replies: "Well, they’re my species."
If Paris Hilton doesn’t feel connected enough to her species to exploit her fame for a greater good, well...she indeed can do whatever she wants.
R. Buckminster Fuller sez: “If humanity does not opt for integrity, we are through completely. It is absolutely touch and go. Each one of us could make the difference.”
Bogart sez: “We’ll always have Paris...”
