Imus vs. Sharpton
Don Imus once stated: “My goal is to goad people into saying something that ruins their life.” Looks like he succeeded once again…
By this point, you probably know all about the scandal. What I’m wondering is: Why now? Don Imus has made a lucrative career out of comments like “nappy-headed ho” but that hasn’t stopped high profile politicians and journalists from appearing on his show. Then again, acting like a racist/sexist frat boy has done wonders for the bank accounts of “entertainers” like Howard Stern, Bob Grant, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O’Reilly. "We’re just giving the people what they want," goes the sad, hollow refrain.
Then we have Rev. Al Sharpton leading the anti-Imus lynch mob. Take a moment to contemplate the Reverend’s strong Democratic party ties and his allegiance to Hillary Clinton. Now, you tell me, who’s a bigger threat to the well-being of women and people of color across the globe? Sharpton or Imus?
What about the pompous corporate sponsors that jumped ship on Imus ASAP? Again, I ask: Who’s more dangerous, a shock jock or Proctor & Gamble?
(Next move for Imus: Following Howard Stern to satellite radio where he can play the martyr while saying and doing whatever he pleases.)
