Italy inches closer to a "gigantic mistake"

My book, “A Gigantic Mistake: Articles & Essays for Your Intellectual Self-Defense” (see column on the right), will soon be available in Italian:

I’ve also been asked (by the same Italian publisher) to contribute an article to an anthology that’ll feature writers like Amy Goodman, Vandana Shiva, and Jeffrey St. Clair.

What Jerry Lewis is to France, I am to Italy. Maybe I’ll have to pull a Gore Vidal and re-locate before the national ID card kicks in here. But seriously, folks...it’s a thrill and not a small victory for me to reach so many readers (and in another language) without pandering to enforced trends and cynical marketing ploys.

Kurt Vonnegut has come up with as exemplary a rationalization as I’ve ever heard for being a writer in the Age of TV™:

“Many people desperately need to receive this message: ‘I feel and think as much as you do, care about many things you care about, although most people don’t care about them. You are not alone.’”
