It's time to help Rosemarie...plus: Pat being Pat, Mickey Z. on your dial, hurricanes, and much more

Our very own Rosemarie Jackowski needs our help

Millions around the world protested the beginning of the “Shock and Awe” campaign on March 20, 2003. In Bennington, Vermont, an anti-war protest demonstration was held. Many people participated...perhaps, hundreds. The protesters were at all times peaceful. Twelve people, including Rosemarie, were arrested because they refused to get out of the street. Of the 12, only Rosemarie had a trial. The others chose a plea agreement. The jury, after deliberating for 8 minutes, found Rosemarie guilty.

The Vermont Supreme Court has decided that this case was important enough for their consideration. On September 8, they will hear the appeal of the conviction. If the appeal is won, the State can re-try the case. If the appeal is lost, Rosemarie will most likely go to prison.

Please consider writing a letter to the editor at the Bennington Banner:
. “Very brief letters in support of me would help a lot,” Rosemarie says. “Just short letters of support so that the community would be reminded that the war is still going on.” Please include full name, address, city, state, zip, telephone, e-mail address on all correspondence. Letters to the editor will not be printed unless verification information is provided.

Pat being Pat

When the Pat Robertson story broke last week, I found myself wondering why in the world anyone was surprised. Almost two years ago, I wrote a piece about the alleged holy man.

That piece began:

There’s an unrepentant religious fanatic on the loose...a man who believes, “The Antichrist is probably a Jew alive in Israel today.” This man is a wealthy fundamentalist who preaches, “Communism was the brainchild of German-Jewish intellectuals” and the “Almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew.”
