Let's start with a question about free speech
How is it that some of those now defending a Danish newspaper’s free speechright to publish anti-Muslim cartoons were screaming “treason” when Ward Churchill exercised the same right?

The first Clean Air Act?
Thanks to the putrid aroma of Manhattan’s myriad slaughterhouses, soap makers, and candle manufacturers, an act was passed—209 years ago today—on February 10, 1797 ordering such establishments to control the offensive odors emanating from their plants. However, in a foreshadowing of today’s corporate-dominated legislation, exemptions were made for those plant owners who “promised” to regulate themselves.

A whale of a choice
