Mickey Z. interview, review & two more anthologies, Gulf news & views, and a Rosemarie update
Claudette Vaughan has just unveiled her new site: Abolitionist-Online (http://www.abolitionist-online.com) and I’m proud to report that her interview with me appears there. Sample Q&A:
Q. John Maynard Keyes said of capitalism: “It is the extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men, for the nastiest of reasons, will somehow work for the benefit of us all.” Your thoughts?
A. Keynes put into words the reason why capitalists need so much propaganda. Humans are naturally skeptical and the truth about capitalism is not hard to see...unless it’s cleverly disguised and juxtaposed with the “evil” of communism, terrorism, etc.

Friends of Animals has a useful post on how to help both animals and humans impacted by Hurricane Katrina and the government’s insufficient response:

I’ve also been told that there’s a need for Black hair-care products for evacuees. This isn’t a vanity issue. It’s essential for restoring dignity and enabling people to get employment so they can get back on their feet.

The next anthology that will feature my work is:

This book, to be released in about two months, will also include none other than Rosemarie Jackowski...and right on cue, here’s a message directly from Rosemarie herself:
Thank you to everyone who has sent letters to the editor of the Bennington Banner. I am very grateful for all of the support that I’ve been receiving. Unfortunately, the newspaper has not published most of the letters. This presents two problems. First it gives the wrong impression that the Peace Movement is smaller than it really is. And also, it fails to chip away at the public misconceptions about civil disobedience. For this, and many other reasons, the Bennington Banner should, at the very least, publicly acknowledge the receipt of the unpublished letters. Other options that we have are sending the letters to other newspapers or using Internet sites to spotlight the issue. Anybody out there have any other ideas?

Meantime, on Thursday the State Supreme Court will hear the appeal of my conviction. The basis of the appeal is that I did not receive a fair trial because the jury was not allowed to see and hear important evidence for the defense. Also, it is believed that the judge made an important error in his instructions to the jury. If the conviction is overturned, the government will put me on trial again. If the appeal is lost, I will probably go to prison.
