Our TV-worshipping neighbor

Once upon a time...

Michele and I moved nearly one year ago and our new apartment has been a quality of life improvement is almost every way. One of the few downsides is our TV-worshipping neighbor below us. He’s a single guy, perhaps in his early 40s, and has been nothing but pleasant in our limited interactions. However, there are three facts about him I’d like to share:

a) He is home an awful lot
b) When he’s home, his TV is always on
c) When his TV is on, it’s invariably loud

His living room is the same size as ours so he can’t be sitting more than a few feet from the friggin’ set. Yet, he often plays his shows loud enough to be heard in our apartment and in the hallway outside his door. We’ve spoken to him about this as did the landlord and I’ve even done the foot-stomping-on-our-floor/his-ceiling thing...and it seems he’s tried to tone it down. But, I guess he just can’t resist a good blaringly loud TV commercial because we still hear it.

In the grand scheme of things, this rates as a truly minor problem...but it’s not only frustrating and annoying for us. There is something deeply saddening about how many folks watch 8-10 hours of television each day and have become so desensitized that “deafening” is the only acceptable volume level for them. It’s as if the louder they make the TV, the less they have to think (about stuff like this?).

The End

Who wants to tell us a story in the comments section?

Speaking of annoying TV, it’s Cheney vs. Pelosi:
