Surprise parties, Arafat rumors, and good luck to Rosemarie
There was an episode of “The Honeymooners” in which Ralph believed (incorrectly, of course) that Alice was throwing a surprise birthday party for him. Opting to “play dumb,” he opened the door to his apartment and bellowed:
“Oh, what a surprise!”
That moment comes to mind each time an official feigns shock when his or her actions (or inactions) lead to misery for the huddled masses.
Yeah, the damage in New Orleans was a big surprise:

Just like 9/11 was a stunner…

...and the attack on Pearl Harbor came out of no where:

Need I go on?
The only genuine surprise, for me, is that any Americans still believe what their government (and the corporations that own it) tell them.
I.F. Stone says:
“Every government is run by liars and nothing they say should be believed.”
Amen, Izzy…

How’s this for presenting rumor as news?
Experts: Yasser Arafat died of AIDS or poisoning

Good luck to Rosemarie Jackowski today. We’re all rooting for you.
