Survey: What is media indecency?
“I define a saint as a person who behaves decently in an indecent society.”
—Kurt Vonnegut
L. Brent Bozell III, president of the Parents Television Council said he would like to see President Bush appoint FCC Commissioner Kevin Martin as the new chairman of the panel, calling Martin a “stalwart leader on the issue of indecency.”
Here’s what Craig Aaron of In These Times had to say about Decent Kevin: “Martin is a hardliner on indecency with close industry ties. According to the Center for Public Integrity, he held more private meetings with broadcasters in advance of the 2003 ownership rulemaking than any other commissioner. Martin is friendly with the White House—where his wife, a former top aide to Dick Cheney, works as a special assistant to the president on economic policy.”
In 2001, Janine Jackson of FAIR wrote this; “(Martin was) former legal advisor to Harold Furchgott-Roth, the only commissioner to fully oppose low power FM, Martin was deputy general counsel for George W. Bush’s (2000) election campaign. FCC-watchers call him a “solid deregulatory vote” and an “appropriate replacement” for Furchgott-Roth, who left the FCC early this year with the declaration, “there comes a time when every free-market advocate in government must fulfill his dream of returning to the private sector.”

Since I’m sure Decent Kevin will be quite busy in the early days of his new gig, I thought we’d help him a bit by pointing out some media indecency he might wanna investigate.
So, feel free to post your examples so we can send the list on to Mr. Martin before he fulfills his dream and returns to the private sector.
