The land of the free (sic)

Angela Davis sez: “There’s always a tendency to push prisons to the fringes of our awareness [so] we don’t have to deal with what happens inside of these horrifying institutions.”

As of December 31, 2005: 2,193,798 prisoners were held in Federal or State prisons or in local jails...that’s an estimated 491 prison inmates per 100,000 U.S. residents.

There are…
...471 white male prison inmates per 100,000 white males in the U.S.
...1,244 Hispanic male inmates per 100,000 Hispanic males
...3,145 black male inmates per 100,000 black males

Expendable Deb mentioned last week about her writing letters to a prisoner...so I thought I’d post this link in case others here would also like to write a letter or two.
