Voices of dissent (but not on a cellphone), stop the seal hunt, and the "life expectancy watch"

I just got a review copy of this book:

“American Voices of Dissent”
http://thecatsdream.com/productions/xxi/book.php

Essentially the script for a series of documentaries featuring the likes of Chomsky, Palast, Gore Vidal, Susan Sarandon, Desmond Tutu, etc...it’s a fine document of provocative but easily digestible bites, re: the current administration and the anti-war movement opposing it. Check it out.

Dial S for Subway

I’m typically not one to quote the New York Times without rancor or irony and I’ve taken some heat for my thoughts on cellphones in the past...but I must admit I enjoyed what Clyde Haberman wrote last Friday:

“In the name of security, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will install equipment to make cellphone service possible on scores of subway stations, 277 in all. Say goodbye to some of the last refuges from the endless, witless yakking on cellphones that is epidemic in this city.

“The terrorists can thus claim a success. They will have made it easier than ever for New Yorkers to drive one another crazy. All too many of them, you may have noticed, are not noted for restraint. Moving trains will not be wired for phone use, transit officials say. Not right away, perhaps. But someday they will be. That now seems inevitable. Then we can all share the joy that bus riders already experience, that of traveling half-awake to work or returning wearily home while enduring some of the most inane high-decibel conversations ever conceived by man or woman. Ah, but this is an essential security measure, we are told.”
