What's the state of your union?

Here’s my annual State of the Union link

Plus:

“By applying the talent and technology of America, this country can dramatically improve our environment, move beyond a petroleum-based economy, and make our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past.”
—State of the Union Address, George W. Bush, 2006

“Our excessive dependence on foreign oil is a clear and present danger to our Nation’s security. The need has never been more urgent. At long last, we must have a clear, comprehensive energy policy for the United States.”
—State of the Union Address, Jimmy Carter, 1980

Guess who used this all-purpose classic in a SOTU Address:
“America will continue the fight for freedom until no vestige of resistance remains! We are deeply conscious of the fact that much hard fighting is still ahead of us. Having to pay such a heavy price to make complete victory certain, America will never become a party to any plan for partial victory! To settle for merely another temporary respite would surely jeopardize the future security of all the world.”

No, it wasn’t Dubya...or Ronnie Raygun...or JFK and his legion of erudite speechwriters. It goes back 60+ years to Harry “A-Bomb“ Truman.

Stop me if you’ve heard it all before...

you once seemed very
important but now you are
another four years
